I think the pricing was the major issue for the Gen 5 Z/28. The price is fully justified when you consider the technology that you get, such as carbon ceramic brakes and the dampers that they used. Plus, when you compare the performance, it is also a good price. BUT, where the price becomes an issue (in my humble opinion) is that the ZL1 is so much cheaper, you get all the creature comforts, AND more HP. Plus, there is the GT500 and the Hellcat. Both of which are priced well below the Z/28.

But I believe that GM will fix the pricing issue. They have to given the pricing of the GT350. GM has been good at recognizing their car's weaknesses and addressing them lately. They sure fixed the main issues with the Gen5 Camaro (weight and interior) on the Gen6.

But how do they do that? Ditch the expensive brakes and dampers, and finish the N/A engine they were working on for the Z06? Use the new engine in the 'vette as well to offset costs? Probably all of the above, and then some. But seeing how GM handled the Gen 6 Camaro, I fully trust the new Z/28 will be awesome!

GM overbuilt the Z/28 and had to then over price it.

The next Z/28 will also die on the vine if it is priced comparably to what the G5 Z/28 was.

It needs to be available in the low-mid $50 range, at least base price. Then, if they want a serious version, add an 'R' version with the full boogie goodies.

Let's not forget to get a package that puts the GT350 as a contender in handling you will start at $57k, not 50k. Even more so to get the weight advantage you need the R package which puts you in the upper $60k range. It's obvious Ford wanted to have a car to rival the Z/28, but more importantly they knew how to use packages to keep the price lower to make it seem like a better value than the Z/28. Hopefully GM will take this same approach to make the car as a whole more feasible.

The Z06 is a track car and uses the LT4, why not a Z/28? I don't see GM doing a special engine just for the Z/28. There is a rumored TT V8 in the works for Cadillac said to put out 560HP, maybe it could end up in the Z/28.

I saw on Fastlane Daily that they have lowered the price of 14 Z/28's by 4K and 15 Z/28's by 2K.

GM is going to follow the Z06. The "Z/28" will come with the LT4, the automatic and convertible.

that's what i think . if they do, and it is in the 50K range that would rule out a ZL1 in the 50-60K range. There were almost 8,000 ZL1's sold in 2013. Would a "Track car" ever approach those numbers? Would they make MRC optional on a Z/28?

It's more than just a little comment. It's the first official comment that the Gen6 Camaro Z/28 is on it's way.

First, the Z/28 competitor is NOT the GT350, it's the GT350R and that car is over $60k. The 'ring time posted was for the R as I recall. And there is that rumored dry track Z/28 run that is still faster than the R................if it really exists.

The Z/28 utilizes the LS7 which although wonderful (insert drooling Homer Simpson) it carries a huge hand built dry sump cost penalty. GM has been very consistent in this and it showed in the crate motor pricing. At least a $10,000 price hit over an LS3 if I recall and CC brakes were added on top of that, another $5,000 option on Corvettes. So the current Z is price handicapped.

The story based on what we know is based on only 2 engines being available. LT1 and LT4. If that is all we get then GM will simply have a very light weight, very track focused version of the ZL1. Not bad, eh?

Orrrrrrrrr, there is the mythical LTx to be announced that could spawn a Z/28 ANNNNNND a Grand Sport Corvette. This is what I hope for.

But this is the fun part. Speculation and discussion. A time so full of hope and anticipation.
