Hard to start when cold normal?
Just wondering if this is normal or anything to be concerned with. I noticed when my car has sat overnight and I start it up for the first time. I press the start button and it will turn over several times before it seems to fire up. However any starts for the remaining day seem to fire up much quicker.
Other than that, no issues with misfires, stalling , etc. I thought maybe its just how it is with a big V8. I've seen youtube videos of Lambo's that do the same thing.. You hear it turning over and wonder when is it going to start. lol. Granted those are V10's/12's though. |

That is a function of the direct injection. It takes a few times to turn over to pressurize the system. It is normal.

I've noticed it just takes longer to turn over compared to my other DI vehicles regardless of temp. Anyone know the CCA of the battery? I wonder if it's on the small side compared to the Size of the motor.

There was a chart in one of the early C7 Vette manuals that showed the amount of time based upon temperature. Under -20°F it was like 15 seconds…

Thanks toOP and this response. Mine has always taken just a half beat or so longer than I thought it should. Just bugged me. I really thought it was just me.

I have another DI car that does not have the long cranking cold start sequence. I think the difference with the LT1 engine is that the high pressure pump is mechanical and driven off a lobe of the cam (it sits at the back of the engine block under the intake manifold). The extra cranking is needed to get the fuel lines that feed the injectors primed to the very high psi needed by the injectors. While the starter is cranking the engine to get the fuel pressure up - the engine computer suppresses ignition to the spark plugs. So once the fuel lines are primed the spark plugs fire and BAM we all get that nice loud bark that says our LT1 is now awake and ready for action!
