The Story Behind Wards 10 Best Interiors - Camaro

2016 Wards 10 Best Interiors Winner: Chevy Camaro

Camaro Sets New Tone for Sporty Chevy Interiors
2016 Story Behind 10 Best Interiors
Jan 12, 2017 Gary Witzenburg | WardsAuto

It is fitting, WardsAuto editors say, that the Chevy Camaro boasts a cabin as pleasing and sophisticated as its chassis and powertrain, which has not always been the case.

It impressed them with its handsome, body-hugging seats, its classy brushed-metal-like trim, the driver-friendly ergonomics of its seating, shifter and steering wheel positioning, its easy-to-use infotainment touchscreen and hard controls. And the judges especially liked the dual HVAC temperature adjusters cleverly integrated into the large central air vents.

The primary mission, according to Ryan Vaughan, director of design-Chevrolet Car, Crossover and Performance Interiors, was to “reinterpret Camaro heritage in a modern way” by striking the best possible balance between heritage design and modernity. Also, “knowing the new platform would be so capable from a performance point of view, we wanted to make sure the driving environment was as ergonomic as possible.”

Nice article. I think they took a look as an outsider who doesn't own it. I agree that it's much improved and do really like it, but there are some little things that could use adjusted a bit. A few that come to mind are the chrome trim ring around the top of the gauge cluster that reflects the sun into your eyes, the size and placement of the wireless charger. The number of turns it takes to turn the temp up a lot for defrosting the windshield, and the missing info on this versions HUD. I love the car and would buy it again, but there are a few interior things that I like better in our other vehicles..

Agree with all of those and I would add one. The plastic top of the dash that goes from drivers side to passenger side and has the vents molded into it and sits over top of the gauge pods. If that large piece was wrapped in leather or even vinyl it would make the interior look much more upscale.

Agreed. This may not be a concern for some but that plastic is likely to crack if the car spends a lot of time in the sun over the years.

If I could pop that sucker off I would get a upholstery shop to cover it with leather.
