Hmm. Maybe so.

I thought it was odd because my 4th gen would break it loose no problem at all. Then again that's a straight axle car which I'm sure makes a difference

No changes with mine. Runs just as fast at the track as it did when I had 500 miles on the OD.

I'm sure most of you don't care about the 2.0 T but I was able to chirp my tires in the first three gears while taking my brother for a test drive. I have the M6 with 3.37 gear ratio.

The 2.0 T is cool. I especially like the lines of the smaller spoiler.

A8 V6= Open differential (spin tires due to lack of traction)
6MT V6 = Limited Slip differential (significantly reduced tire spin compared to the A8 V6)
SS V8 MT6 + A8= Limited Slip Differential (LT1 engine easily overpowers the rear tires!)

Much like the honey badger, the LT1 engine doesn't give a F^@k!

But...The V6 6MT cars with limited slip differential can't brake traction as well as the LT1 SS. However, the A8 V6 cars brake traction all day because there is no LSD. This means that the A8 cars cannot put power down as well as the M6 cars (theoretically). Another way of saying this is that the A8 cars will allow the V6 to overwhelm the tires, even if it means reduced forward propulsion. On the track, this means that the A8 V6 might spin out where the 6MT might gently rotate.

What this translate to iA8 V6 guys braking traction, while the 6MT guys wonder why they can't.

Things get confusing when the SS guys chime in saying that their 6MT brakes traction willingly. Well, I would hope the v8 LT1 could brake traction with it's 450HP and 450 Lbs/Ft of Torque! All V8 cars have limited slip rear differentials, but the V8 is strong enough to overcome the effects of the differential, so you always get tire spin when mashing the throttle.

The 2.0 will get snaky in a hurry if you don't pay attention, with the TC off but the stablitrack still on i 'accidentally' drifted around a short 'on ramp'... It will spin the tires with ease, not if you leave at an idle though.

Leave the line at 3000rpm though and all you get is spining tires with the M6

Agreed 100%. Speaking for the SS models, first gear in the A8 is quite a bit shorter than first in the M6. Net effect is more torque for the A8 at the rear wheels in first gear, given the same vehicle speed. According to this chart, 10 MPH in the A8 puts you at 1500 RPM vs. 1250 for the M6. So in the A8, you're going to be higher up on the torque curve, plus the torque at the wheels is even greater due to the shorter gearing.

This all works out just fine in real world driving... If I'm driving a manual, crawling along at 10 MPH, and I really want to GO, I'll push in the clutch, get the RPMs up, and I'll be gone. I rarely encounter this scenario though. More likely, if I'm crawling at 10 MPH in first gear, I'll just ease into the gas so as not to bog the engine. In an auto, just mash the go pedal if you want to GO.

I tried this today. Weather was sunny and hot, about 92. A8, took off and wheels broke loose with no problem. Also did a rolling one at about 20 mph and got a good chirp out of them

I can get this thing to hook up quite well. I'm actually quite excited thinking about the better tires that are on their way to me. I did have it a little sideways today.

I was thinking about this thread yesterday while the wife and I were taking a short cruze. On our way home I stopped for gas, somehow the car ended up in sport/competitive mode on the way out of the pumps. Long story short, my H50 will break the tires loose in 1st and 2nd rather abruptly with the wife saying, and I quote "you'll go to jail doing that". Hahaha

I do not lose traction much either, but if I were you I would try this in track mode and stomp on the pedal. the throttle in track vs tour or sport is a lot more jumpy and should help you lose traction a bit easier. I also have a m6 and it seems everyone with an a8 has no problem

Just curious how that reply fits into this thread. Are you going to lay a lot of rubber during this trip?

OP - depending on weather and road conditions (colder weather or tires, low traction asphalt) I can get the tires to break loose by punching the throttle with the clutch all the way out while in first gear (M6). Most of the time the car just squats and goes. Pretty normal - I think. In general these tires hook well and the chassis/suspension plants the tires to the road.

Because after all spinnin' ain't winnin".
