Awful news
So I took my car in so they could look and see if I had metal in my rear differential because mine is making the rubbing noise when cold....good news no metal.... Bad news is they actually took me in the back and showed me under my car. The entire undercarriage is rusting away. Corrosion everywhere. I have had the car for 3 months and has 1800 miles. I always part it in my garage..... I am waiting to hear what they are going to do about it.........

I didn't think to take them when it was on lift. I was very distraught. I will see if I can get them from dealer

Well if the mud wasn't all cleaned off properly right away it can sandwich moisture in between it and the undercarriage which could definitely be the cause...but with modern rust proofing, it's probably just harmless surface rust, or if on the aluminum, surface corrosion as aluminum can't rust...
