I had the recall done over lunch at Huffines in Plano and it took about 45 minutes (not bad).

The key starts my car without the FOB, so now I don't need to carry the factory FOB any longer. I have a viper aftermarket alarm and just need to carry the one Viper FOB now

This fixes an annoyance I've had since I got the aftermarket alarm.

Waiting on a dealer to release my car to my dealer. I hate recalls. I have no choice

No thanks. They won't be getting my key back.

I had my 2012 in last week for the dealer to replace the torque converter, which they did, without mention of the key issue. This week it went back in because of a rattle, which turned out to be the O2 sensor that they didn't tighten property. This time they mentioned the key issue and I said that I'd like to opt out. When I picked up the Camaro later that day, no mention of the key. He handed me my original keyfob and said it's out there. No mention of the key issue. No forms signed. Great service.

For those concerned about "losing" their switchblade if the recall was forced upon them... Ebay seems to have lots of replacements. I haven't tried one, but they look legit.

I'm not sure if this was mentioned but the real solution to this problem should be for people to purchase a vehicle that they can actually fit in without having their knee hit the keyfob. I've sat in numerous Camaros when I was shopping for one and never had this problem. If you have to pull your seat so far up that your knee hits it then don't buy it. My wife is short and we had to wait for the new Equinox to come out so she could fit properly in it. In the previous models her knees would hit the lower part of the dash below the steering wheel. Hence, we didn't buy that model.

I picked up my car Friday and while I don't care what the key looks like, the fob hits my knee when shifting. I ordered a set of blanks off of ebay and hope the dealer can copy them, if not them then someone else. I'll keep you posted.

I bought 2 off ebay for $45 (for both) cost me $60 to have them cut because of the type of cutting machine required.

programming can be done by you, it's very simple.. I now have 4 switchblade keys for my Camaro, I also bought 2 blank inserts so when the dealer does the recall I will have 2 switchblade keys and 2 non-switchblade and the fobs will at least not be empty on the sides..

I will never use the non-switchblade key except possibly for valet or my detailer..

Forced upon them?

There is no way they can force this upon us.

Sorry, I know I can read thru the 51 pages of this thread, but figure this may be quicker. I was told that the ignition is on back order and eta is approx 3 weeks. The dealer says they can not give me a definitive date due to the shitstorm this has caused.
What's the typical turn around anyone has experienced?
