I did that in mine and it cycles through all of the songs on the thumb drive in alphabetical order regardless of folder location.

Sirius/XM is great, but it's not the best sounding music. An iPod is the way to go. Got my wife the iPod touch and since it's wireless it updates her song list when it attached itself to our wireless network. No pulling it out since it picks it up fine in the garage.

I second that. There is nothing like your entire library available to you in one place. Create playlists for whatever your flavor. I have jazz playlist, classical, jams, cruising mode, drive like you stole it mode, attitude, slow stuff, mellow mood, rap, hip hop, you name it... You can go by artist, album, song titles...

I bought an extra iPod just for the car. It gets updated, added to, and put right back in the car. Look on apples site and take a peek at refurbished iPods if you want to get one on the "cheap".

If you are getting CDs from someone you can use any number if free programs to convert them to digital format. iTunes is one, there are many more.

Not sure about the 2012, but on the 2010 you can go to SEARCH and then FOLDER VIEW in the menu. Select any song in that folder and all the songs in that folder will play in alphabetical or random order, depending on what mode you select.

You can arrange the music on your flash drive into separate folders for artists, playlists, etc.

I haven't used a music CD in years though. I usually keep all of my music on my Galaxy s3 and either use the 1/8" stereo phono jack or BT.
This is because of the way you have the drive set up. The music should be organized by artist and album, just let the drive auto sync with Windows media player and it should work that way.

???
The car doesn't have Windows media player and neither does the computer. Not sure what Windows media player has to do with how the Camaro reads USB mass storage devices.

I load my USB drive from a PC using WMP works great & indexes the drive to work in my Camaro & Silverado. The Camaro is a 2011 and the Silverado is a 2014 with My Link.

I format mine (4gb dedicated for the car) in fat32, create folders for artists, and then copy the files to the folders. I insert the flash drive into the USB in the car and it plays. I don't think that the car indexes or anything.

Can anyone shed some light on how WMP would affect this scenario?

Currently I have a Debian Linux workstation as well as the wife. All of our servers are Linux based except for two 2012r2 domain controllers. Most servers are virtual anyway on a pair of ESXi hosts. I think that I do still have an 2008r2 physical acting as my VMC so if I HAVE to, I'll go back to the server room and plug this USB into there...But that's is laborious for as often as I may wish to change music.

Question...Does this 2012 stereo act as an iPod control? I'm going to have to purchase an iPod/iPad mini to control the NightOwl light main module and I've heard that itunes can update over the wifi so I wouldn't even have to remove it from the car.

Criticism and suggestions appreciated.

If it doesn't index, that's a malfunction. If you make changes to the flash drive and insert it with the power on, it should say "indexing" on the screen.

Also, have you tried using the SEARCH function from the menu? What happens when you do that?

Another issue may be the stick you're using, depending on how many files you have on it. I use a 32-gb drive, and it works like a champ.
