MH3 numbers

Hi all,

I just did a count of the ZLE’s made with the MH3 trans. The numbers were from data obtained from GM and posted by members here. There’s no guarantee these are the 100% correct numbers, but it’s the best I could find to compile.

ZLE Total numbers MH3

2018: 1,567 (All were MH3)

2019: 783

2020: 202

2021: 262

2022: 179

2023: Pending

I thought it was a worthwhile effort since I believe the ZLE M6 is one of the best, and likely the last, manual transmissions made with an honest close-ratio gearset.

I, for one, am an old manual trans guy from the 60’s - 70’s, and still love manual shifting and that low RPM drop between shifts.

The MH3 is the smoothest finest shifting transmission I’ve ever driven. The OEM clutch has absolutely perfect engagement. My first drive in my car was after purchase at the dealer. I was shocked how good it was. It even comes with training wheels, …… hill assist and rev match for today’s drivers.
Thanks for the list, my guess is 2023 numbers will be even lower.

Hi Camfab,

I 100% agree with all your statements. This is my 2nd ZLE with the 6060 and both have been flawless.

I’ve had Muncie M21’s, Ford Toploaders, and BW Super T-10. All were good, much simpler 4-speeds, but were not better for sure. These 6060’s are the best by far.

Did anyone figure out how to launch these cars with this transmission??

I usually rev it two 2000 rpm, drop the clutch and leave sideways! With other cars I’ve had in the past.

Not with this car. It just falls on its face and bogs out.
Once it finally goes the other car gets the jump on me and I have to run them down.

Steve zx900,

Sorry, I’m not a drag racer. But there are other threads on this topic ongoing now. They may have your answer.

Steve, I don’t have enough miles on the car to really get on it. With that said, my last car had similar power was lighter and similar gearing overall and even more tire. That car I used to drop the clutch between 3000-3500rpm, and it would just pin you back. You have to experiment with your tires and as mentioned lots of people here with plenty of experience.

Well said. I have 4 manual tranny Camaros (+2 autos) and the driving experiences are very different but all a pleasure depending on my mood. The '68 SS convertible 4 speed with it's ZZ430 crate engine that red lines at 6500 rpm is great to bang gears in, the '97 Z28 SS has a light flywheel and tachs up quickly with 4.10 rearend gears and the '12 ZL1 and '22 ZL1 are smooth, quick and killer with the supercharged engines. The manuals are just really a great driving experience no matter the generation!

Thanks for the research and posting. I did not realized the low production numbers. Truly a special car.
