Steering wheel stil vibrating - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

Have after market rims with new Michelin pilot sports on,..my steering wheel vibrates between 45-65mph, had the road force balanced still vibrates did another balance today still vibrates, I put new rotors and pads so that ain't causing it... Can anyone help wat u think it is 17k miles on car... Hub rings are good to so can't figure what's causing this thx....

Seems to me the shop you're dealing with is incompetent, find a new one.

I had this problem with a set of aftermarket rims on my old Jetta. I took it to a shop that specialized in German cars, they used a laser alignment fitting on the road force balancer and put it on the rim to check for trueness. It ended up being the rim as one of the spokes wasn't machined the same as the others. It was impossible to tell from just looking at it, but when the laser was put on the rim while spinning it was obvious. I called the manufacturer and they were cool and sent me another rim for free. You might have that checked too.

OP, you can rotate your tires if they are the same size from front to back and see if that makes a difference with the vibration.

Had a friend have this issue with an Audi and aftermarket wheels. He could never get it fixed. Only fix was going back to OEM wheels.

Similar to what BLK is saying... I think it's the rims and/or a hubcentric problem. Are you sure you have the right size hub rings? Are they plastic? If so, get metal ones.

Ya there plastic the guy today said there fine they fit good and shouldn't be the problem,, I was thinking the same to get metal ones but he said it won't help ....

I'm not saying this is your problem, but I would seriously consider having the wheels tested for trueness and also that the spokes are the same. I drove myself crazy trying to figure out the problem on my Jetta. I rotated the wheels myself until I found where it vibrated the worst. I then had that wheel checked for true. Radially it was fine, when the tech put the laser on the spokes he found the problem. The bad wheel wasn't that noticeable on the rear, but stood out like a sore thumb on the front. I know how frustrating this can be from personal experience.

This is the actual wheel that the tech found to be out of whack. The laser showed the circled spoke to be machined out of tolerance with the others causing the vibration. Again, this may not be your problem, but it doesn't hurt to check.

I had the same problem, check out my old post. What happened the shop who mounted my wheels used a impact and over torqued them. It caused them to warp. I did the same thing, I had them rebalanced at least four times still felt a shake. Called the manufacturer, they asked me how they were mounted. I told them with an inpact, they said "OH NO" that's way to much torque. Nothing I could do but eat 1k in rims that I can't get rid of.

Try dyna beads they balance your tires as you drive. Have solved a lot of tire vibration problems with larger rims by using them.

I had the same problem with my last car spent 2 grand on wheels and tires and had the re-balanced over and over. When I had them road force balanced I found the problem, the tires were out of round all four of my new firestones were out of spec two were around 23 or 24 and the other two were like 33 and 36. the tech said 26 was the limit. he broke the tires down and spun the tires around to a different point on the wheels and got the a little better and we marked the best two for the front. They still vibrated. I also added the beads to the tires and they did nothing. My tires were out of round not balance. I put about 400 miles more on that car then drove into a chevy dealer and traded it in for my Camaro. Problem solved for me.

I have the same problem, aftermarket wheels, all four brand new stock tire type and size.

Standard balance three times. Road force balanced...twice. Twitch is still there at 65mph. I have become very certain it is one or more of my new rims. Fairly pissed about that, not cheap. This fall when I swap back to my OEM rims and snow tires I will take my "good" wheels and tires to a wheel specialist and have them spec out the wheels and tires. My bet is one or more wheels are out of round.

remember- you can technically balance a square wheel. Just won't be a smooth ride.
