You are correct. I like to pay cash for the stuff I drive (hate paying interest). I've got about $20k put away so my thoughts are buy a TB SS out right and then spend $1500-2k doing a refresh on it. IE new brakes, fluids, deep detail etc etc.

I bought my wife a new AWD Red Jewel TBSS back in 2008 and we would've probably kept it a lot longer, if it weren't for the horrible gas mileage. She liked everything about it minus the mileage and I just got tired of hearing her complain, so we traded it. It was her daily and with only in-town commuting, best she could coax out of it was 12 mpg (maybe 13 rounding up). I had the resonator removed but it was otherwise stock and ran very well. If you don't mind, post up a few pics if you pick one up.

I'd love a TB SS AWD as my "beater" but those things are going for 17K w/ nearly 90K miles in good condition.

I had an 02 Trailblazer with the I6. The trans went out at about 200k, picked up a used one for $300 and was on the road again. The bose CD player was pretty problematic, seems common from what I've read. The I6 really is a great engine if you're not stuck on the v8.
I also currently own an 08 G8 GT. Super comfortable, and fun to drive. It gets 25mph HWY with the AFM disabled, only about 15-16 in town. If you're going to keep the Camaro, might as well go the SUV route. |
