Taking a step back for a while

Just needed to get something off my chest. For the past couple months my 7 y/o boxer Chloe has been geting sick with no answers from my vet. Finally decided to take a trip down to Lansing to the MSU campus. They found something with her small intestine and liver that caused concern and are doing surgery today for samples. They told us more than likey cases like this turn out to be cancer. some people might think this is dumb but we have decided to do what it takes to get her better. We can not have children so to us this is our baby. Just needed to rant a little I guess more than likely I will not be to any car shows or doing anything with the camaro anymore but i'll still get on the forums.

I am terribly sorry to hear about your puppy dog. I have 3 dogs and tho I love them very much and it would pain me to have them become ill... don't put you life on hold becasue you have a sick dog. I am not trying to make light of the situation at all but your last line concerns me... "I guess more than likely I will not be to any car shows or doing anything with the camaro anymore."

Why?

I wish you and your doggie the best but try to stay positive and continue to do what you enjoy in life. It will ease the pain of a passing dog.

Dogs are every bit as important as any member of the family and, I've been there and spent beaucoup money on ours over the years to do whatever it took to get them healthy. Prayers going out to you bro and for your pup, hope Chloe is back on her feet in no time.

I just spent $1600.00 on my dog. They want me to get health insurance for her. My wife told me it is only $20.00 a month. I'm not sure if that is right. I will be looking into it though. She was pregnant and had problems so they cut her open and got the puppys out. They puppys didn't make it but she is doing fine. Good luck to you and your dog buddy.

Our dog (Soprano) was diagnosed with anal sac carcinoma back in June 2008, at the time he was 8. The vet recommended surgery to which we quickly agreed, actually there was never a question! The surgery went well, they were able to remove all of the cancer and of course recommend Chemo and/or Radiation. My wife and I struggled with the Chemo decision and we decided not to do, not because of financial reasons just because we felt we knew our Soprano best and knew he was a fighter and did not need it. March 2010 he was again diagnose with cancer, this time in and around his colon. We again put him through surgery, this time they were unsuccessful in removing the cancer and the vet hoped he’d live 6 months. The news was devastating to us, but we knew he would outlive their 6 month prediction.

Sadly on June 14, 2011 (at the age of 11) we had to put Soprano down but that was 15 months after the 2nd cancer surgery, not 6 months as they predicted and 36 month from his 1st cancer diagnosis. Soprano was such a fighter and was never unhappy or in pain and truly amazed us with his will to live. We never expected him to live 36 months after the 1st cancer surgery but he truly was a special dog. Yes the cancer finally got him but I know 100% he would not have lived a day longer with Chemo, in fact I believe he would have been miserable and lived a shorter period of time.

Soprano went through a few major surgeries in his life; I’d estimate we spent roughly 40K in surgeries and aftercare alone and would do it all over again without even considering it! In fact I held off buying my Camaro while he was alive so we’d always have money for him if needed.

Never, ever worry what others think, this is your baby, a part of your family. I’d give up everything I have just to have him back in my life. Also, there is no reason to stop your life, take this as an opportunity to incorporate Chloe in your activities whenever and wherever you can and pamper her like crazy!

Take care of her and you’ll hopefully have years of happiness in return (as we did). Good luck to you and Chloe, hope she has a speedy recovery!

Anyway, here is a list of Soprano’s surgeries:

Spayed as a pup
1y/o - luxated patella
3 y/o- hospitalized for a reaction to Benadryl
7 y/o- torn ACL – Had TPLO surgery to put 8 screws in his leg
8 y/o- 1st cancer surgery
10 y/o- 2nd cancer surgery
2 different times he had surgery to remove fatty tumors

Here is a link to a photo shoot we did with him back on 2007:

Sorry if this message seems all over the place, but I still get very emotional when talking or writing about Soprano!

Wingsfan: In no way, shape, or form should anyone consider this thread "dumb". I most certainly do not think it is dum and I understand your concern for your dog :( These companions sincerely do care for us and treat us with respect. Every day when I get home, our 2 dogs come running to the door and are the first to greet me. Even when they get yelled at, they don't retaliate nor hold it against us.

I certainly do wish, hope, and pray for the best outcome.

I feel your pain, it's tough thinking about losing your best buddy. We had to put our 12yr old German Shepherd (Bear) down. I cried for days....... but we decided to do it again and now we have another Shepherd (Ruger)........ boy what a little pistol he is!!! Hope Chloe gets better soon!

I am so sorry to hear this. I lost one of my three dogs almost two years ago from cancer and it is a horrible feeling. My dogs are everything to me and I know how tough it is. Just keep positive thoughts and we will all be here hoping he makes a full recovery.

I couldn't help but smile when I saw your new Shepherd's name. I had a Shepherd as a kid and his name was Pistol. He earned that name after we got him at 8 weeks old and spent the first two weeks constantly trying to jump up and bite our other dog's tail.
