Both are great cars. It would be great to see both competing at the same track.

One thing you can lose is your Warrenty with that decision...so it is not for everyone.

It is easy to get caught up in the big power numbers of the ZL1 but the cars will feel quite different when you drive them back to back. The new SS is like 400-500lbs lighter than a ZL1, which not only enables it to match or beat the ZL1 acceleration times with 125 less horsepower but it makes the car a lot more nimble and tossable if you know what I mean. They feel very different to me. The ZL1 is more of a brute force car. Don't get me wrong, it handles quite well for a 4100lb car but it can't overcome the physics of all that mass. The first thing I noticed in the new SS is it is sportier. The interior is smaller with a cozier cockpit and is more comfortable than the GEN5 to me. It has better seats, the arm positions feel better, the smaller steering wheel feels better. The overall dimensions of the car look and feel smaller, the free-revving nature of the LT1 feels sportier to me. The new A8 just rips through the gears super fast and the rev matching M6 is really cool as well. The best way I can describe it is that the new SS drives more like a Corvette Stingray than a previous GEN5 Camaro. It is a Corvette on the alpha chassis. So, if you are looking for the more traditional muscle car with big power than the ZL1 should fit the bill nicely, especially since you can get them for under $40k now. However, if you are the type of person that will appreciate the driving dynamics of a lighter Camaro sporting the latest powertrain and transmission as well as a vastly improved interior then the new SS will probably make you happier in the end. That is until we get the 17 ZL1. :-)

I agree with you raptor5244, the 6th. gen SS is lighter, more nimble, and has a great power train, its more of a sport car with some oriental style look, and the ZL1 it has more of a muscle car looking. I was undecided at first between both, but my strongest decision factor was that 6th. gen cabin is very small no space for passengers on the rear seats. I parked both cars side to side and the 5th. gen ZL1 look more impressive than the 6th. gen SS, that is why I went that route since the price for both was very similar and the '14 ZL1 that I got was fully equipped even with Recaros with just 1100 miles on the odo. You will find many ZL1's with low millage since many were just weekend toys. Probably if I compare the exterior of my ZL1 with the new 6th. gen 1LE or ZL1 then maybe my decision would be different. Is just a mater of choices the 6th. gen is a great continuation for Camaro, and probably the 5th. gen ZL1 would become a classic auto since you see very few of them on the streets compared to SS's.
