Dario Franchitti crash, going to make it...

but, instead, here's something interesting and cool about Franchitti.

Despite his name and heritage, he's Scottish. Weird, right?

He's also a fan of the late, great, F1 World Driving- and Indy 500- Champion, Scotsman Jimmy Clark. As am I. American Dan Gurney, my other F1 hero, introduced Clark and Lotus's genius Graham Chapman to Indy 500 racing. Gurney was the only F1 driver that Clark considered his equal. Dan, please run for president in 2016.

Anyway. Clark and his alter-ego, Graham Chapman, made Lotus a powerhouse. And Lotus changed Indy 500 racing. Clark's 1968 death at Hockenheim in a F2 race also brought seatbelts to F1.

Dario Franchitti got to drive the real, actual Indy-500 winning Lotus 38 that Jimmy Clark drove to victory in the 1965 Indy 500. Very cool. And a gorgeous car. The coveralls he's wearing are what Team Lotus wore in that era. As a bonus, a brief glimpse of the actual car that Clark drove to it's maiden F1 victory- the graceful, powerful Lotus 49. The heritage of the 49 is easy to see in the 38.

Enjoy.

Glad to hear he is going to be alright.

I figured he would have a broken back after slamming the ground from 10 feet in the air. Every year for the last seven years I've been going to the Indy Race in St. Petersburg and I always wear my number 10 Target shirts! Even though he has slipped some in the standings since switching to the new cars he is still an awesome representative of the sport and to racing in general.

There are those of us, like me, who was there, believe Jim won TWO INDY 500's, NOT one. He also won in 1966. I still have my 1966 500 ticket with the picture of the 82 green lotus on it, will always keep it. I have been to 41 INDY 500 races. To me, the best race was the 1982 race with Gordy Johncock and Rick Mears. Rick was almost one lap down (he was just in front of Johncock) with 15 or so laps to go. Rick ran WOT to pick off a few seconds each lap to finish in second place next to Gordy on the final lap at the finish line. This race stood for many years as the closest finish!!!
Jim Clark was one of the best, if not the best driver.
