Question for seasoned "car guys"

I'm 32 and have had so many damn cars it's laughable. None of them have been as nice as my current 2010 SS that I bought new, but all were money pits...parts and parts and parts. 65 Impala SS blown, 5.0 Mustangs, Lightning, super cherry big block Nova etc...... I stuck tens of thousands in these cars that I no longer have...

At the interest of keeping this short, here's my question to spark everyone's thoughts: does a guy hunker down and continue to invest thousands in one car or does he stop while he's ahead? Options are the following: 1. Keep his bad ass Camaro forever, trim the investing WAY down and look for another dream car to tinker on? Or 2. Go ahead and put the blower, axles, clutch, methanol kit etc, etc on it and spend all The money on one toy?

If any of you are older members with life lessons or thoughts, I'm interested in your comments.

Seems that subject has come up before....most of the commenters say: "you only live once"! Don't let your dreams get away without some sort of positive action. If you do let it go, some day you'll regret it. I've had nearly 70 cars in my lifetime and I'm taking possession of 71 next week...a new 2012 SS and trading my 2010 SS in on it.

I really want to keep one, keep it forever. I also know that I have car fever thats always in the back, middle and front of my mind. I'm telling myself I can keep my original owner 2010 SS and also have and old school ground pounder to blow parts money on....

Well my thoughts are to have a second car as a weekend tire shredder and keep the new car stock for a DD, if you choose the right car 1st or 2nd gen, the money pit mods won't get wasted and the car will be worth more down the road, you 5th gen WILL NOT GO UP IN VALUE and be worth more in your life time. The muscle car era was special if you went through it and I don't think it will repeat it self.

This is my choice only and my not appeal to others, just something to think about and good luck with the road you choose travel

Truly depends on how much you love the car. Sure, you can put thousands of dollars into a car an make it a monster; but what is all that worth if you don't love it?

I love my Camaro. I intent to keep it forever, but I said that about my BB Nova too...off it went to get the Camaro.

It might just be a vicious circle.

I keep my mods to a minimum, knowing that someday I'm going to get the bug for a different car. My mods may not appeal to the next owner, so that kinda limits my future potential buyers.

I'm going to show my age here, but when I got out of high school I bought a 10yr old '57 Chevy. Man I loved that car. If I had known back then what that car would be worth today, I probably would have kept it. But, I didn't, as newer cars came, so did my desire to have them. Out with the old, in with the new is the old saying.

As time changes, so do our tastes. If you are a millionaire and can afford to keep your current Camaro for the next 20 yrs, then by all means mod it the way you want, but IMO pouring thousands of dollars into a car that you will eventually trade for something else is a waste of money. In other words, mods are not a wise investment, you'll never get that money out of it. A 2010 Camaro, is still a 2010 Camaro 5 years from now.

If you have the itch that bad, get an old beater and mod the shit out of that (Nova, 80's Malibu, etc.).

This is where you it makes no sense. I see your point. But in no way, shape or form is any mod you do an investment much less buying a car. The minute you buy it, its lost some of its value. SO instead just say spend thousands in one car or...
My opinion would be to spread the wealth. Rather than spend on one car spend on many. Ask yourself whats the purpose of making your car badass? Will you be racing it? Do you want to be the baddest around? Whats the purpose? Because for cheaper you can buy an 80s car (sleeper?) and turn it into a race car pro stock or whatever. That way all your money goes into the drive train and not the car.
