Many of these same points came up in conversation 6 years ago when GM released an "outrageously more expensive" Camaro than the Mustang...

one word, folks: Appeal.

Camaro outsold the Mustang for years despite not having a "competitive price" or stupid-high rebates like the Ford did. The bottom line is, the Camaro is a better car. People will pay for that. They did...they are...and I think they will continue to do so.

In case it hasn't yet been said....

The new 1SS starts are $37295. It comes with standard RS package features, and is faster than the outgoing 1LE.

A 2015 1SS starts at $34500...add $1350 for the included RS stuff...and for kicks, consider than the 1LE package was $3500.

A faster, better equipped 2016 1SS @ $37295.00.....vs.....2015 1SS/RS + 1LE @ 39350.00.

IMO, that's not a bad deal at all. But I think we need to square with a new reality here...the days of getting four wheels and a V8 are dead. CAFE standards don't allow for manufacturer's to sell V8s willy nilly...so if you want one, you have to pay. I don't like it, but given the circumstances, I'm glad Chevy's at least giving us something for the money.

Sign me up for a 2SS with dual mode exhaust and mag ride!!

True, but chevy is forcing us to take the RS option so they can get more money out of us. We should be able to get an SS without RS if we wanted. Just like 5th Gen.

Really? I thought MSRP was expected to be paid in the first year due to how popular it is. I didn't know MSRP is the norm for someone to pay

I think you will be surprised.

Yeah I updated right after I posted. Missed the other new options that are included in the 2SS. So that could definitely push it up more than I was thinking. the 2SS may base out around 41k

And not to mention that fact that V8's may not be around that long, especially with the amount of HP that these cars are putting out...hurry up and get yours before there are only electric, self driving, econo-boxes on the road!

How so?

1LE currently costs $3500. There is a $11,000+ difference between the 1SS & GT350. If my math is correct, that makes for a $7,500 price gap ... about double the difference between the base GT & 1SS.

Or were you thinking loaded out 2SS with everything (that we don't know the price of) vs non-optioned GT350 (though about the only option, besides paint/stripes seems to be a $7,500 tech package)

2016 Chevrolet Camaro pricing announced (1LT / 1SS)

Well, this is a bummer. I was hoping pricing would be near what the Mustang is. I think I may be looking at other cars for that kind of money.

I may be looking at the GT350.

So just to be certain...there is no such thing as a 6th Gen SS without the RS package correct??? All SS's will come with this?

The GT350 is around $10k more than the SS. If the 1LE stays around $3,500, it will be $6,500 between the two. That's if the 1LE stays at $3,500.

I think based on the pricing it is obvious that GM will have the 1LE for 2017 or maybe sooner. That should take on GT350 at $50K.
