It’s not a track package. It’s a “tremor” package.

Because it will make the competition tremble for 1 or 2 laps

I'm not sure, but they must have #'s for 2017 by now. I know back in 2013, they sold a little over 2,000 2013 1LEs, so I suspect the number of 2017s to be higher due to increased awareness of the 1LE.

Would love to know for sure though.

Wait. It isn't a track package? You're right in that Ford appears to deliberately avoids saying it. Apparently, Ford didn't even approve the project so the engineers did it after hours.

Ford Motor Company Press Release
PASSIONATE MUSTANG TEAM WORKS AFTER-HOURS TO CREATE NEW PERFORMANCE PACK FOR ULTIMATE ROAD-HUGGING THRILL RIDE
Evenings in the garage. Weekends at the track. Gearheads everywhere can appreciate the extra time and effort the Mustang team took to quickly prototype and hone the Performance Pack Level 2 for the new 2018 Ford Mustang GT.

… road test efforts to ensure the car delivers ultra-responsive steering, braking and handling performance.

“Our targets were aggressive,” he said, “and we nailed them.”

Someone needs to tell the press that this really isn't a track car.

2018 Ford Mustang Performance Pack Level 2 First Look: Passion Play

Think of Ford’s base Perf Pack as roughly equivalent to a Camaro SS ordered with the 1LE handling and Magnetic Ride packages…

Level 2 aims to counter the dynamic capabilities of the 1LE Track Pack. To do so, the skunkworkers took a holistic approach to enhancing mechanical grip and aerodynamic downforce. For starters, there’s a good bit more rubber meeting the road…

The end result is said to roughly split the track performance difference between the GT Perf Pack and the mighty GT350…

So which one should you bet on the first time these two titans clash? …expect the Chevy to out-drag the Mustang on the straights. In the corners? Sadly we have no comparative numbers for this generation Mustang GT on a track where we’ve also run a Camaro SS 1LE

The 2018 Ford Mustang GT's Newest Performance Pack Is for People Who Aren't Ready for a GT350

It’s meant to bridge the gap between the basic Level 1 package and the outright track-focus of the GT350 and GT350R.

It's a serious upgrade. That's also a page out of Chevy's playbook for the Gen V Camaro Z/28, which used the same 305mm tire width all around.

…we have a Mustang GT for people who want more performance but aren't ready to step up to the insanity of the GT350.

Late Model Restoration is saying on Twitter their 2018 GT PP A10 put down 415hp and 397 torque on their dyno. Interesting.

Time to question the dyno they used lol.

IIRC the gen 6 was putting out anywhere between 410 - 430 rwhp during the early speculation process. Seems like this will be a battle of who can put down the power better and who's driving more importantly.

17s put down 390ish, so after all the updates that is exactly where I thought it would be.

435>460 crank
390>415 wheel

The 415 rwhp is a good number and another indication that this car may run well, this coupled with the new A10 I can see low 12s. We know the Tremor Package should be capable of putting down a similar lap to the 1LE, question is can it do it for multiple laps.

There is no doubt that the SS will now feel pressure from the GT, something which hasn't been the case for the past 2-3 years.

Having the power is one thing. Getting it to the ground effectively is a completely different thing. Will the 18 GT be able to get it to the ground effectively? That remains to be seen. Also it depends on where that HP is in the RPM band and what the torque is looking like as well.

I will say that 5th Gen Camaros were making around 370 to the wheels in the LS3 with M6 trans and running a 12.9-13.1. The S550 GT was making about 380-390 in the M6 trans and ran about the same time. The weight between both cars were similar. So that could mean that the new GT might be capable of a low 12 since it will once again have similar hp and weight plus the addition of the A10. But I'm thinking that if it isn't good at keeping the power to the ground then it'll be a mid 12 instead of a low 12. And again, I really do think Ford will do something to nerf the GT so as not to elbow in on Shelby performance specs. Regardless of what anyone says about heritage and yada yada, it would be completely stupid to buy a GT350 when the standard GT will be keeping up with it. An enthusiast would never go for that. That's like buying a ZL1 for over $60K when a $50K SS is in the same league. Heck most of us think the Grand Sport Corvette is a ripoff since it costs as much if not more than a ZL1 and performs less. There would literally be no justification to buy the GT350.

Certainly still some doubt but there is no doubt the gap has been narrowed, just yet to see how much though. An inflated dyno is no reason to start jumping to conclusions. The GT is still heavier and down on torque.

I will admit, it is exciting to talk Mustang v Camaro again at least, and that's awesome!!!

LMR has been running passes today and it looks like they got 12.0 at 116.x.. Obviously multiple passes and playing with tire pressure. Hope to see some tests from others.

It's maybe .5 quicker than a hero run 6 speed automatic, right?
