Broke 500 Miles - Going to change oil and diff fluid - What do I need to know?

I crossed 500 miles on the way back from Cars and Coffee this morning. They've been a lot of fun but I'm glad I don't have to worry about staying out of the gas anymore.

So I'm going to be changing the oil and diff fluid. What do I need to know? What oil should I use? I really don't pay attention to much oil discussion but I did see Amsoil 5w50 recommended. What oil would a dealer put in if left to their own devices? My car is not tracked or driven a lot. It's a weekend toy and a pampered garage queen.

And what diff fluid should I get? Just a general gear oil or is there a specific product I need to buy? How bad of a job is it?

Find a dealer that can source 0-40 mobile one Dexos 2. Do the diff yourself - super simple.

Get a dimple oil drain plug for the oil pan and one for the trans. Rear end already has one.
I used Mobil one for motor oil.

Used OEM trans and rear stuff.

I thought that the pdf circling around about this topic stated that 0w40 should be used in ZL1s only for track events.

I just performed my second oil change today at 1700 miles and I used Royal Purple 5w30.

I am not trying to suggest that the OP use Royal Purple. I am only suggesting that based on what I have been reading on these very forums; if this is your daily driver and NOT a track toy, I would stick with 5w30 for now.

Use what ever oil brand you feel comfortable with.

For oil I would just use any high quality synthetic 5w-30 oil. I personally use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum.

The new Mobil 1 0w-40 oil coming out looks like it will be the new recommended oil in the future. I plan to switch over to it once it's easier to get.

Diff oil I would just use the what's recommended in the manual which is this stuff: https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-10-40.../dp/B008BZS6J8

http://www.drainplugmagnets.com/ You can read more about them here. It's pretty much just a magnet on the end of the oil drain plug that pulls tiny particles of metal out of the oil that are to small for the filter to get.

According to the fact sheet, all the high performance GM engines in the Corvette, Camaro and Cadillac CTS-V models are being upgraded to Mobil 1 ESP 0W40.

One of the big advantages of the new oil is that for the LT1 and LT4 is can be used for both street and track use thereby eliminating the need to change oil for track days.

The LT5 is coming from the factory with ESP 0W40 but the LT5 still requires a 15W50 weight oil on track days.

I had my oil changed to Mobil 1 ESP 0W40 three weeks ago and I can attest it makes a noticeable difference in my ZL1's performance.

For the diff...get a fluid pump like this that screws onto the bottle. Available from Amazon, AutoZone, etc for ~$7. After changing I drive directly to a parking lot where I can drive figure eights to circulate it well.

The dealer I normally use didn't have it and their parts person claimed they couldn't order it. Their computer, however, showed three other dealers in the area with a supply. I ended up going to one of the three for the oil change.

The GM part number for the oil is 19353135 - Mobil 1 Dexos 2 0-40 ESP Liter

If you want to change your oil cap to reflect the new oil, that part # is 12686472

I know this is going to be an outrageous claim that will make everyone think I'm a nut job, but I swear to God the oil has made a bigger difference in performance than the ported TB I once had on my car.
