Ordering?
I am going to my dealership today to start the whole process. Do we know when the ordering banks will open?

Idk what "process" exactly, you are going to start? Last I talked to a deler, they were oblivious to the car.

I am going to put my name on the list to order when the ordering starts. I am sure my dealership knows what the six gen is now.

I had the guy who sold me my '13 SS put me on a list to call as soon as they have a '16 SS on their lot. I'll take a test drive and we'll go from there.

Ordering
I ordered a 2016 Z2/8, I put down $5000. What I found out is it doesn't get you a low vin number if you order early. I guess what it does do is allows you to get the first one at the dealership. Come on LT4!!!

I really don't think there's going to be a z28 for the 2016 model year, maybe 2017 at the earliest... they actually took a deposit from you for a z28 specifically or any 6th gen?

Just checked at Donlen and both USA and Canada shows TBD for 2016 Camaro order date which means Canada is now in sync with USA.
Dealer salesperson ^ probably said Z28 as it does not take long to learn dealerships pay very little attention to future product. Even for new generation Corvettes or Camaros. Some do, Becky Doyle being one, but most do not. I would guess 99% do not, but that is a guess and not based on any statistic I know of. Chevy even went so far as to require each dealer have at least one salesperson specifically trained in the Corvette in order to get early allocations when the C7 was about to roll out. Yes, I have put a deposit on it. They said that it would be announced near the end of July.

You did not order one. You just gave money to a dealer (so they can earn the interest and not you) for the privilege of being one of the first to order the car when ordering opens up. And I doubt we'll see the Z/28 for MY2016.

I'm pretty sure a reputable dealership will NOT: 1. Take your order now, as there is not a current ordering bank and 2. Take a deposit on a Camaro in which they CANNOT order yet.
A reputable dealership shouldn't ask for a deposit even when it's time to order.

Most dealers will want a deposit unless there is a relationship, especially when the order bank is not open. $5000 does seem high but I am not there. This appears to be a Canadian order and that could be a difference.
As to the Z28, how often do we go to a dealer to place a retail sold order and discover we know more about the specifics than the salesperson? Likely the salesperson knows what a Camaro is, knows some Camaros are referred to as Z28s, therefore equates the two. Granted a car person would know, but I am not sure being a car person is high on the criteria when a dealer is looking for a sales person. I suspect the opposite.
