My MRR Design FS01 Gloss Black Wheels 'Project Sledgehammer70"
As some of you may know I had the honor to get invited to check out the MRR Design FS01's, now being built for the 2016 Camaro SS. My journey involved a trip down to the MRR Design office in SoCal and a morning of fun with the guys.
Overall this was the first fitment test for the wheels so I am not sure either of us knew what to expect coming into this. My car at time of arrival was sporting the stock 245/40/20 and 275/35/20 tires on the OEM 20x8.5 and 20x9.5 5 split-spoke black rims. The goal was to get a set of the MRR Design FS01 wheels in a nice gloss black setup in a 20x10 and 20x11 and mount 285/35/20 and 305/35/20 tires. I am starting to think the rear might benefit from 305/30/20 but not sure on that just yet. Details of Importance: OEM 5 Split-spoke Black Front: 20x8.5 - 25et Tire: 245/40/20 - Weight: 59.9lb each (wheel and tire) Rear: 20x9.5 - 39et Tire: 275/35/20 - Weight: 64.5lb each (wheel and tire) MRR Design FS01 Front: 20x10 - 25et Tire: 285/35/20 - Weight: 55lb each (wheel and tire) Rears: 20x11 - 43et Tire: 305/35/20 - Weight: 57lb each (wheel and tire) Weight Savings: 24.8lbs Pro's: - Wheels are light as hell! Flow forged for the win. - Going from the Goodyear A3's to the P-Zero's didn't really cause any noticeable different in driving across all modes. - The design and wheel quality is top notch. The powder coating is flawless! - Did I say light? Yes super light! - We made the jump from 245 - 285 and 275 - 305 tires and went from an 8.5" - 10" and 9.5" - 11" rim. That is about 35% more tire and 30% more rim all around and still shaved off 24.8lbs from the stock run flats and rim combo. - The slightly taller tire closes the wheel gap nicely Con's: - P-Zero 305's do rub a little on the rear driver side. (We relocated a wire harness behind the wheel well shielding and got around the rubbing issue. ( I want to see what the 2017 1LE rear panels look like) Gripes /First World Problems: - While the design is rocking, a lot more to clean over the OEM 5 split-spoke rims - Wheel openings are hard to clean behind when your a big guy with big hands. If you're a not so big guy or gal, this will be a non-issue. - The taller tire adds a lot more side wall... (this can be fixed with a shorter side wall tire.) Note: I really am not a fan of dry tires and honestly it really changed the look of this setup as soon as I added some tire shine. I am not very good at snapping images, but here is one with the tires dressed. Stay tuned for professional pictures Update: )3/31/16) I was unhappy with how the car sat so high with 35's tall tires and as mentioned above decided to go with 30's. The car now sites 3/4" lower and I feel the wheels look even better without all that sidewall. Now with 285/30 and 305/30 tires.

Crazy! It looks so good.
The slightly taller tire looks great. I don't think you will notice a performance difference for having a tiny bit more sidewall. Maybe if you were a Track Junky you could notice it. The Gloss matches the other pieces of the car. That weight savings is huge, as you said, going 30%+ across the board and still dropping weight. Any reason for picking P-Zeros? And close ups of the rim? Great. Thanks for info. Good Job MRR for making this available to everyone.

Look nice, a bit too much sidewall for my liking though.

They look good! Why the 305/35 in the rear instead of the 305/30? The 305/30 is fairly close to the same height as the 285/35 up front.

Looks good. Do you have any plans to lower the car and would you expect more rubbing issues if you did?

With 35's and the offset currently, I don't think lowering it is a option. MRR could easily shave another 5mm off these rims offset and allow the wheel and tire to tuck nicely if you want to go that route. As of now the tire does stick out a little less than 1mm.

Sledge, if you do a similar package that will be the end of any lowering you may have thought about. Still looks pretty cool

It looks great in my opinion, and must handle much better. Love the tire sizes, but might have gone with a 305/30, which is a closer match in height to the front. Track guys will point out a 285/30 in front might have a slight benefit, but then the car begs to be lowered. It might be a magnet for damage if using a shorter tire and lowering. The taller rear looks tough, and the rear is likely not the limiting performance factor. Lastly, not many tires would come in all 4 of the sizes we're discussing. If someone was determined to lower for the street, maybe a 275/35F and 305/30R would be a good combo.

Good tire size idea... Would also help from the front wheels looking wider than the rears. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
