This sounds like yet another stupid thing my car does. It's happened twice in my 18k miles. Both were very low speed incidences, <10mph. One was in the summer after about a 20 minute city drive. I actually heard the tires squeal. The other was just a couple weekends ago heading to my parents after a highway trip (quite cold, low teens). I was waiting for a couple people to cross a street so I was barely moving. When I went to accelerate, the car started to go and then it completely locked up. I was thrown forward in the seat enough to be quite startled. If someone was behind me, or if this was at a red light, I'm sure I would have been rear ended.

This is not a hesitation, which it also does on occasion. This is as if the car completely locked up.

Taking it to a dealer is pointless since they won't fix anything without being able to reproduce it which, two times in 18k miles, is highly unlikely.

This car would be gone but I can't handle the 50% depreciation in less than 18 months.

The first shift from 1->2 was really weird. Instead of being clunky, it was as if I downshifted. But there’s no gear 0. The car basically gave a ton of resistance, slowed down. No funny noises, rpm’s and sound matched an upshift to 2nd, but 2nd causes the car to essentially brake (the opposite of what an upshift typically does).

Any thoughts? I get a quirk or two a day on every drive to or from work. This is just a new one...
I would say temperature was your problem factor the transmission is a hydraulic pump which have an optimum operating temp and 9 is not it lol. I would think a little more warm up would help.
