Are 2" headers overkill for a bolt-on car?

I'm just going to have basic bolt-ons for a while then eventually a turbo or blower but it's gonna be a while.

I have 2 trusted sources that are telling me that 2" is overkill and I trust their knowledge but wanted to get a few opinions.

thought I read a graph that showed the 2" made 8-9RWHP over the 1-7/8" flavor and I think the gain was above 5500rpm.

If I am going to lose low-end power then I will just keep the 1-7/8" Stainless Power that I just bought and install them.

Man losing low end power due to open exhaust breathing on a 350 V8 is not something to be super concerned with. If you were modding a Duratech or some smaller 6 cylinder, then perhaps.

2" will pay dividends when FI is added. Not overkill and they will sound better

2" on a bolt-on on car is certainly NOT going to hurt anything....including your performance. Then, down the road, you will already have the headers you need for FI. Why buy headers twice??? Do it right the first time.

I heard lack of back pressure robs power. I also heard that's why shorties make more power. I've been looking into getting an O-pipe so I can get 500 HP.

To answer your question though, 2" is what I wanted, but I didn't want to wait. I was hoping to have everything done before lake season. 2" just gets more and more worth it as you add more and more power!

2" headers have been known to cure aids. Chuck Norris invented headers and oxygen.

2" headers will have lower lowend torque a friend swapped from 1.875 to 2.000 and noticed it.
