Snow tires question and driving conditions

I have a question about snow tires. I have been reading that they should not be used on dry asphalt. So this has me worried because we do get snow here in Omaha but not to where its on the ground all the time. If anything its really cold here below 30. Do you guys just throw the tires on when it snows?

I put my my snow tires on when the temperatures are below 40-45 degrees F continually and are left on my car until the temperatures exceed this temperature. They will wear faster on dry road, but outside temperatures also play a big factor. You will be fine. The winter tires use a softer compound and perform best in cold weather, not just ice or snow.

Snow tires are fine on pavement. I have a set of Bilzzaks with over 40,000 miles ( mostly highway). As poster above stated they work best below 45 degrees. If the temperature does go above that and you must go on the highway, take it easy. Speed puts more heat into the tire.

Drove from Toronto to Kentucky one year in winter and observed no extra wear. It did feel weird doing the posted speed limits for half of the trip

This is totally FALSE. Even in areas in the snow belt the roads are dry 70 percent of the time or more. Winter tires are designed to be driven on dry roads.

The key with winter tires is they are designed to be driven in cold temps of 50 deg. and less. I put my winter tires on around the middle of November and I take them off by the middle of April.

Just put them on and don't worry about it.

They are fine on dry. Had mine for 3 years. I only drive like 7K a year.
