0W-20
Getting an oil change at the dealership and the service manager recommended using 0W-20 instead of 0W-40. Not tracking the car at all. Does this sound ok?

Take your car somewhere else and report that service manager! He's recommending something that will void your warranty. Look in your Owner's Manual: it tells you to use 0w-40 Dexos 2 oil. That service manager is an irresponsible moron, and if the dealership doesn't have the proper oil in stock, then they aren't equipped to service the vehicles they are selling.

The W after the first number means winter, not weight (the entire designation is the weight), but yes, 0W-20 is likely going to provide poor lubrication at high temps and is ill-advised. My assumption is that's all they had in stock and probably of the cheap kind, so steer clear of that oil (and service department).

All I was doing is pointing out which Weights (Viscosity options) should be used. Quick explanation to what I was referring to: https://www.valvoline.com/en-eur/und...g-oil-weights/ Bottom line, 0W20 is not suitable for the LT1 engine in our cars |
