They got into my car w/o setting off my alarm?

Can someone explain something to me? My car was broken into and they stole what was easy to get. No windows were broken. The car was locked. My alarm never went off. Even though it wasn't anything major, the fact that they were able to get this close without my noticing bothers me. I'm still unsure how someone could get into my vehicle without my knowing or setting the alarm off.

Has anyone else had this problem?

They have a device that will bypass the alarm system.

So there's really no reason to have an alarm? Does anyone know of a better system? I'm kind of frustrated with a thieves ability to take my things so easily.

When you got in had the tamper alert been activated? Its possible they had one of those frequency generators that send out millions of unlock codes and they found yours that way.

My alarm

Alarms are only a feel good device. Thieves will get it if they want it. Out of site out of mind.

i know you would probably swear that you locked it, but are you truly sure?

and have you tested to see if your model is actually an alarm? they way to test is lock it with the fob. press the lock button 2x. wait a few minutes with the window down open the door from the handle inside do not hit the lock button. if the horn honks you have an alarm. if it doesnt you dont

They all come with the alarm. You can tell if it's activated 30 seconds after locking the doors by a red LED flashing in the light sensor dome.

So where do you get one of these devices? How much do they cost?
I'm sure they fall into the "tools for commission of a crime" category, and the NSA will add this to my permanent record for quality purposes...
But I would like to see a demonstration.
op - my money is on left unlocked or someone used your key fob.

I've seen news reports about it being done, not sure if it works on newer cars though.

This happen more with older cars "code grabbing". I havent seen it much with newer models. Me personally I always add aftermarket alarms to all my cars. then added tilt sensors, glass break sensor and proximity sensor. biggest thing is don't leave thing visible on seats and dash.

Code grabbing devices don't work well on newer cars that have "rolling code" type receivers. This type of remote works by sending out a different code each time the transmitter is pressed. The receiver has an algorithm that tells it which code is being sent, and what the next code sent will be. Code grabbers can only receive one frequency, and cannot encode and send rolling code information.

Did you program your smart phone to lock and unlock your car ? If they want to steal it ,they will . All you can do is slow them down.

I made sure to lock it after I checked for my sister's purse. I don't usually leave my car outside, so I double checked.i didn't see any evidence of tampering aside from my things being gone. I know the alarm works since it's been set off by a passenger in the past. I couldn't tell you how it happened. It's a newer model and shouldn't have been so simple but it seems that it was. Sadly, I have no idea what to do to prevent this in the future.
