Tunnel car wash

Are car washes that use tunnels still bad for your car or has technology finally figured that out and there isn't a need to pay more for a hand car wash?
I used to wash and wax my car by hand an loved it, I think it makes the bond with the car stronger. That being said medical physical limitations mean I cannot wash my baby. Even though I cannot wash her I don't want to mess her up.
When u cannot wash your car, what do you do?
Pretty much every car wash I know of uses a tunnel but you can pay extra for a hand wash.

I still wouldn't trust the automatic car washes. Those brushes tend to scratch your paint. I live in an apartment so I can't hand wash it there, but I take it to a self serve wash and I bring my own mitt and car soap and then dry it off with a chamois right after. I've gotten many swirls on my 5th gen that I traded in from the automatic car washes. Lesson learned.

If you live in an apt with no water source , learn to do a Rinseless, details in my sig.

The best car washes for your car are touchless......

That was not directed at you, i answered both of you, are you in an apt?

Relax....we've had this conversation before. Just because you start a thread doesn't mean you own it.

Wow. I've never seen that technique before. I will definitely try it out. Thanks!

Whether we did or not I'm not sure. Plenty of people jack threads, it doesn't make it okay.

If I couldn't physically wash my car I would take it to a reputable detailer for the polish and seal and just run it through touchless car washes to remove the dirt between details.

I have a 2003 SLS and have free dealer car washes for life. So in 13 years I bet I have over 1000 car washes. It is a modern car wash and I see no noticeable damage. Several times a year I will do a detail so I know every inch of her.
Once I bought my 016 RS I have no issues using the same dealer car wash. I use micro fiber towels to dry her off and have yet to see any damage. I do take pride in the appearance of all my vehicles. So my vote is for modern car washes to use in between detailing weekends.

I take mine thru a car wash twice a week. I've had a membership for 6 years, no scratches or issues on any of my cars.

hmm, I read in the owners manual, that you shouldn't take it thru an automatic car wash, due to damage concerns. So you take yours thru an automatic one.

The Touchless I go to still uses a tunnel...so I would tell you that it is more about what is IN the tunnel that is important

But yeah, touchless is best if you just need a quick wash. Just know that it is a compromise compared to a hand wash...usually they use a combination of water pressure and chemicals to get all the dirt and grime off. Some people feel that they make your Polish/Wax/Sealants wear off faster. I have NOT done much reasearch because I update my paint sealant job well before the 6 months the bottle says.

Touchless can be tough on some sealants. My wife took mine through a touchless wash "doing me a favor" while I was away on a work trip. I noticed immediately on the first rain that something was wrong. The soap stripped away the sealant. I had to redo the entire car.
