The ZL1 will be priced UNDER $50,000 and if you put every option you can on the car it might make $53-55K.
Otherwise the people who do their homework will buy a Grand Sport.
GM has a tight window of pricing otherwise they'll drive people to the Corvette. Heck, you can buy a new Corvette coupe(non-Grand Sport) now for in the 40k range so those 50K+ numbers don't make any sense.

I agree... If this car is in the 50s then people would just buy a vette considering the fact the target audience is the performance fans.... I'm gonna say it starts at 46000..... I don't really think there will be that many extra options. I think the car will come with pretty much all of it on it anyway.

I hope a;; this is so about the pricing because I was prepared to pay 45k for a 2SS/RS with just exhaust painted stripes and the optional 21" wheels.

I believe the ZL1 Announcement transcript that Team CAMARO considers the two in different markets. Have a look, later in the transcript for the comments. I don't think they're really looking into this aspect as much as some might think.

That's JMVHO though

"I read this earlier.... that is a pretty good price! I wonder what the base model would not have?"

At $47k it probably won't have wheels.
IMO Those in the under$ 50k camp are going to be disappointed.

so 48-49k?

^^ This. Saying 'starting at' is meaningless but gives it good PR. The vast majority of SS folks are probably SS/RS and that stickers for 37k+.

A marketing gimmick. The ZL-1 will be north of 50 by the time you option a couple of items, IMO.

Not sure, but my guess is that they are getting things mixed up. Chevy announced that the price of the Indy Pace Car Convertible was going to be $47,000 according to Edmunds Inside Line: http://www.insideline.com/chevrolet/...auto-show.html

•Chevrolet is building 500 special-edition 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Indianapolis 500 cars priced at $47,000.
•The convertible goes on sale this spring and is patterned after the official pace car of the 2011 Indy 500.
•The pace car replica gets a Summit White exterior with orange stripes.

CHICAGO — A special-edition 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Indianapolis 500 model will arrive in showrooms priced at $47,000 this spring, Chevrolet announced at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show on Wednesday. Pricing includes an $850 destination charge.

The biggest question, of course, is how soon does Chevrolet expect them to sell out and how can consumers get their hands on one.

"Yes, we do expect it to sell out," said David Caldwell, Chevrolet spokesman, in a phone conversation with Inside Line on Wednesday. "Our dealers will know very soon if they'll get one. I advise consumers to ask your dealer."

Obviously, there are thousands more Chevrolet dealers in the U.S. than there will be cars, given the 500-unit run of the pace car replica.

The replica — a Camaro SS Convertible in white with orange stripes and orange leather-trimmed interior — celebrates the 100th anniversary of Chevy this year. A special-edition Camaro Convertible will be the official pace car of the 2011 Indianapolis 500.

The color combination on the pace car replica evokes the design used on the 1969 Camaro Indy pace car. Chevrolet said in a statement that those cars are "among the most popular Camaros in the collector world."

The Indy Pace car convertibles will be equipped with the 6.2-liter V8 engine and the choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

Inside Line says: Expect these Camaros to be snapped up quickly and become a real collector's item. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent

Guys, ZL1 is GM's GT500. It has to be competively priced as such or they are making a serious miscalculation. GT500 starting MSRP is 48,645. This is the range the ZL1 will be in. Take it too the bank.

I think its a fair price, i mean if the GT500 starts in the upper 48s then why not 47? The ZL1 is reported at 550hp which only matches this year's GT500 so they gotta be competitive somewhere, and while the magnetic ride stuff might out-corner the Shelby i still think GM will be looking to bring this baby to the masses rather than package it in an exclusive shell like the Shelby. I think GM's gonna take a shot at Ford and undercut their price. Also dont forget we are talking about the BASE car here, if the base ZL1 were 55 like some have suggested and the base Shelby were 48 dont you think the GT500 would eat this car alive in the market place?

Another thing is that a lot of people add up the prices and try to figure it up themselves but they dont take into account that the price when you buy a product from GM is a LOT higher than what GM pays to produce it, simply said an LSA might cost a metric ass-ton but GM probly pays less than half that to build it and can afford to market it for cheaper when youre buying a whole car in bulk from them rather than just the individual piece.

And the Corvette vs Camaro pricing thing, as ive always said, is irrelevant. Corvette people buy Corvettes, Camaro people buy Camaros. There's a thin gray area there where a few people compare performance and price but for the vast majority people who come to buy these cars already know which one they want before they compare facts, they'll never step on each other's toes
