1978 Corvette
I have a client who inherited a 1978 Corvette from his did. He has no use for it other than the cash he would get from its sale. I think I will help him out with pricing once I see what condition the car is in. I may buy it? I looked on the inter web and it seems that even a low miles good condition do not sell for big dollars. Where should I begin with helping him get a sale price?

I would check out bringatrailer.com I know its an auction site but you can check out where other cars sold out to at least get a ball park figure.

The only sharks that sell for big bucks are the chrome bumper big block versions with all matching numbers. The rubber bumper ones are all pretty reasonable.
The '78 won't be worth big bucks (or even significant bucks) no matter how you look at it even the two-tone anniv. cars. However, you can look at it another way. At least they're not as worthless as the early C4's. lol! |

Mikeman is 100% correct(especially about the Corvette C4s). When the boss and I were figuring out the finances to finally buy my "dream car"(my company always provided me with a vehicle), I was dead set on a late 70s Corvette to have restored. Then the Muscle car wars started again and the Camaro C5 caught my eye and the thought of not having to restore a car plus being able to enjoy my Camaro already, the decision was easy. On the C3 vettes, after the CATs were added, the prices(and horsepower) went down. Plus, the thought of fiberglass issues always worried me. They are still great looking cars but it looks like you are already doing your homework. Good luck!

Thanks, lads! I think that my client will appreciate a fair sale. He has very little money. He recently sold a Ranchero and some of his prized chickens to fund his existence during the Covids and the resulting unemployment that he is faced with. I did now want him to get taken advantage of on the sale price of the Corvette. This information will serve to help a fellow car guy and brother.

I know I'm stating the blatantly obvious here but have your client do an extra heavy duty detail job on the car prior to selling. I'm always surprised when I go look at a vehicle and it's full of Burger King bags, cigarette butts and empty soda bottles. Even worn door panels and scratched windows look better all spruced up. Give the wheels and tires a good treatment. And if he does it all himself the cost is minimal.

I’m always in the market for a vette and I’ve seen C3s between 3 and mid 20s (for the early ones). Like stated above, a bubble window C3 won’t draw much. Mid teens for a nice one.

Yeah, they don't bring a lot. By the time 1975 rolled around, Vettes were just about as detuned as anything else on the market. I paid $3000 for my 75, 4-speed manual car and sold it a year later for $4000. This was about 7-8 years ago.
Oh, and definitely what ariZona28 said. |

Plastic bumper Vettes are not the most desirous but prices have improved a lot in the last few years, at least here in the NE. Don't give it away just yet! For example...
