What am I doing wrong?

About 1k miles on the new car, 15 1ss l99. Airaid intake, muffler delete and 305 drag radials. 1/3 tank of gas. Good track prep/condition. 90° ish no wind. Didnt notice hardly any wheel spin and it felt strong and tight.
Tried lightly in the throttle then wot on launch and up against the converter as much as poss without spinning. Also tried letting it shift itself in S and manually shifting.

The dealership did put in low grade when I took delivery, after which I drove straight to autozone and added some good booster and have put a few premium tanks through since.

I was expecting mid/low 13's, and have seen a bit faster from bone stock cars. First run was quickest, after my ET slowed but gained in mph.
Car # 947

I'm faster in my RS. You need to take traction control and stability track off and when you line up push brake pedal all the way down and rev the engine to about 3000 Rpms and let go of the brake and full throttle out of the hole.

First of all what is the DA at your track? If you have a high DA you can't compare to magazine times where they run on perfect tracks in perfect conditions.

2nd of all did you pull the fuses to reset the octane tables after running a few tanks of good gas through it?

@John. look at his MPH. it will tell all for the DA. 101mph in the 1/4 and 77-79mph at the 1/8. thats hurting my Xrunner with bolt ons did that in a decent DA. his had to be terrible.

Using Firebird Int Dragway (which I think is Wild Horse Pass)...
The DA was, get this..

Density Altitude: 3784 feet
Relative Density: 89.39 %

Wow! That's pretty bad.
Corrected time on the first slip is
13.443 @ 106.334

Track is 1140ft above sea level .. my local track is 400ft for comparison.

The DA is killing you. Read up on the DA and you'll understand. Here is a link to DA calculator and correction algorithm.

http://www.dragtimes.com/da-density-...calculator.php

Your corrected time is actually respectable. Next time out, be sure to disable the traction control and stabiltrak. I've never been able to hold my revs at 3k..stock converter wont allow it... it would always push through the brakes. Try preloading the convertor by holding the brakes and revving the engine to about 800-1000rpm. When the third light goes yellow, let off the brake and floor it (two foot it). Your 60ft time should be a lot closer to 2.0 (no matter what the DA is)... Let it shift itself. No paddles. If you were running with the nannies on, that'll cost you about 1/2 second.

Wait until the weather is cooler and lower humidity (or find a track thats closer to sea level) and you'll see greatly improved times. Until then, practice your starts and lower that 60ft time.

Wow, great Information. Thank you. That makes sense. I have since learned that Ive only been disabling Traction control this whole time and not Stabilitrak as well. So all times are with stabilitrak on. I never knew to hold the TC button for 7 secs or so lol

I did not do the fuse pull as I read somewhere that 2012 or after would do it on its own. Should I still do this?

Thanks guys, I'm going to read up on the DA. I knew there was a correction that may need to be made but had no idea it could account for so much time.

Fuse pull won't hurt anything. Go ahead and do it. Stabiltrak will add a couple tenths to your time, so you would have been in the 13s if you had disabled it. Don't feel bad about your first time out... I was the same as you, made the same mistakes, ran the same times and posted the exact same thread. I'm still learning and trying to go faster.. You'll get faster each time you go. Remember, your time at the end depends on your 60ft time... so always try to do better at that.

Your car will also get quicker when it gets a few more miles on it. A lot of guys swear their L99 didn't really come alive until about 5k on the odometer. The best thing I ever did was get headers and a tune. A good tune is the best thing you can do for an L99. If you've got the $$ don't hesitate.

Ive dropped a full second....off my 1/4 mile time...my 60 ft went from 2.6 down to 2.0..and i went from 103.5 mph to 110.75mph. This was all done after some real seat time. My goal was to get into the 12s which i was able to do. Im not to hardcore racer ....but i did want that as a set goal. So don't worry...it does get better.
