Not that it would make anyone feel better but I was fortunate enough to race against a BOSS 302 with the LS package in my autox event. We were both in ESP class. We both had stock tires and I have a pedders coilover suspension. I beat him by .900 of a second and ended up taking home the class win.
What im trying to get at is the SS only lost by what 2 seconds to the LS Boss 302 in Leguna Seca? My opinion would be the 1LE would easily beat the BOSS and the Zl1 would trump it! |

We were just at the OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Challenge. There was a Shelby GT500 that ran a target time. It was a 'track' car whatever that means. The Lingenfelter L/28 we built in less than four weeks, the car ran it's first hot lap on a dry track ever with a rookie driver and was 2 seconds faster.
The L/28 would walk a Leguna Seca. The 1LE should beat a Boss and the ZL1 should beat them both. |

I think your "Top 10" finish, considering 6" of snow in the pass 'tween Vegas and Pahrump, combined with a 37* temp Saturday AM...in a Brand New combination untested @ Spring Mountain...speaks VOLUMES for potentialities!
Well-done, Pete, and all those who were a party to this worthy endeavour! |

Oh, I'm sure. But it is what it is....which happens to be an improvement over the SS and identical to the Corvette. That's astounding, imvho.

I personally think they are struggling to see which camp is bigger.... the "faster is better" versus the "heritage buffs" who don't like a lot of change, hang onto a trim (Z28) as though it's their only child, and want to see it grow up to conquer the world. Releasing one at a time helps sales. Guys who sit in both camps will buy the ZL1 because it was released first, realize that they will never use the full power or performance it offers, and end up trading it for a Z28 once it's released. If they went the other way (Z28 first), sales on the ZL1 may not be so impressive. Even with the SS, were talking major high performance here at 426 ground shaking horses. And then they're going to release two more trims that are bigger, meaner, and pricier than that? In this economy??? I think they're doing it right. Look at it this way... If all four trims (LE, SS, Z28, ZL1) had been put into production at the same time, back during the initial release of the 5th gen in 2009, do you think that the company would be getting the sales numbers they are getting in 2011, and would in 2012, 13, etc... I doubt it. Why? Cause there'd be nothing new making the headlines, some other flavor (no offence to the Japanese market), would come along and rape sales, and shift the culture again, and existing Camaro owners, would be less likely to "trade up".
