Someone mentioned swapping the internals with a new shell. I found that is easier said than done. These remotes are heavily glued together, they don't just come apart.
The remote start didn't require anything different. All the buttons work after the thing is recognized. The only trick is to remember how to use the remote start. IIRC you must push the lock button then start.

I never went for the recall, "fix." I wonder if I could just snag those 2 free keys and be done with the issue.

I replaced my shell a few years back. Got it from ebay. Under $4.

As previously mentioned, the new shell comes apart easy. And the old one goes in the trash. No reprogramming, no key to cut. It took perhaps 1/2 hour of my effort.
