The new SS is going to be amazing, but Ford has been known in the last few years to let their competitors make the first move. I suspect they'll have a new powerplant in the GT in the next couple of years. Great time to be a car person.
Actually I'd imagine the next GT500 will be a TT V8. Possibly a 5.2L or even 5.4L but in a traditional cross plane layout. The gen2 3.5EB will probably move into a "Mach1" and be slotted in just above the GT. . . initially. I'd bet a tune to the sound of 500/485 would fit the bill.

If that product sells well I wouldn't put it past Ford to offer the 7th gen GT with a 3.xEB and move the V8's to only the top tier offerings.

I agree that this is the last generation to have a V8 in the middle of the lineup. Still, I think the fact that they put a TTV6 in their halo car says volumes about where they intend on going.

The entire automotive industry is going there, not just Ford. There are amazing things coming down the pipe from the turbo engineers in all industries. They are only beginning to scratch the surface in design efficiency while they work out longevity issues.

We need to enjoy the V8 while we can, no matter who makes it.

Great thread, would read again.

I never believe mag times. When mag times ran mid 12's in the ZL1, I laughed and said that was pitiful and shouldn't even be advertised since the car is so much quicker. 6-8 months later, owners were running bottom 12's, high 11's S T O C K . If you do not believe the GT350's can achieve similar times stock, well, crawl back under that rock. Give that car to an experienced driver with a few practice runs and it will run much faster.

Same with the GT500's, Z06's, etc. Mag times are BS, take them with a "grain" of salt.

the new gen mustang isnt anything impressive its just the same stuff with IRS and oh the refreshed aethetics but the only mustang right now thats worth the attention is the 350/r but to say that they're a failure in a 1/4 mile is just a low blow...

Theyre track cars but yea numbers are comparable to the BASE SS and man they will get blown out the water by the newer 1Le/ZL1/Z28

Who could have guessed the emphasis on drag racing vs road racing would flip when Ford made a more track-focused than drag-focused car? Oh that's right, everyone.

I hope you know the Mustang had IRS before the Camaro.

Comparing the GT350R to the base GT350, Motor Trend ran the two vehicles one after the other. The results — the base GT350 ran ran zero-to-sixty in 4.1 seconds versus the GT350R’s 3.9 seconds. In the quarter mile, the GT350 ran 12.4 @ 117.8 mph while the GT350R clocked out at 12.1 @ 119.6. In other words, the GT350R was 0.2 seconds faster from 0-60 and 0.3 seconds faster in the quarter mile with a higher trap speed.

Now compare that to the new SS of 0 to 60 in 4.0 and a quarter mile of 12.4 all for 37300.00 LOL ... Ford really miss the boat on the new model year
I don't know what's more sad...

The fact that you don't understand it's not a drag car

The fact that you think Ford "missed the boat" on a car that won the Best Performance Car award..

Or that the "failed" GT350 matched the Z/28's quarter mile time for about $15,000 less..

But let me guess...everyone knows the Z/28 isn't a drag car right?

Well kind of sorta of, there`s a big difference between being offered on a few limited and select models (a few thousand SVT Cobras between 1999 and 2004) and being offered as a standard suspension on ALL models of Camaro`s!
