This is extremely common, probably 1/5 of the cars I work on have dog food and food from mice. It sucks when the mouse gets trapped and dies, I had to dig out a family of mice from the cabin air filter a month ago and the car stank terribly after only a couple days. Daily driver, too.
(The mice came out in pieces, at least three heads but I did not count enough feet!)

Im sure that was one of the most confusing moments of your life when you found that out. Those mice really where set up for winter.

Next thing you know they'll be playing the car stereo. Those mice have no respect for personal property.

My wife drives her car nearly everyday, but I think while we were gone on vacation they made a nest in the blower motor. They did that once 10 years ago as well.

I keep dryer sheets under my hood year round. Keeps them out.
As an insurance adjuster I once had mice chew wiring on a new Mercedes,
Final repairs were over $6500.00 and that was over 10 years ago.

I'm glad the damage wasn't worse.

Can't store food in the same outbuilding where you store your car. Especially with the wife starting it up every week, she was making a nice warm home for them with high food availability because of the dogfood stored out there. That's exactly what they want, and under the hood in the airbox like that, they were protected from the dog as well.

Even if you clean it all out, they WILL come in again. If you can't move the dog supplies, at least put the food in a completely sealed container (where vapors/smells can't escape)...

Damn, look at that, they carried each piece of food right up through the intake tube. I had a strange instance with rats/mice as well. I would never see them but in the morning I would have about 500 tiny paw prints all over my windshield. I put about 6 traps out one night, the next morning I had caught 6 tiny rats in my garage. One trap had two rats in one trap. That was a bonus trap. I guess I got them all since I haven't seen any other evidence.

When I went to change out from stock to a CAI a few weekends ago, when I took out my stock filter I found a few peanuts at the bottom of mine. I was at a bit of a loss for words also, though your collection far exceeds the couple of nuts that I encountered.

Wow, that really sucks. Maybe put liter box in the garage next to your car. Hopefully those little bastards will think you have a cat and stay away. Years ago I had mice get in my 79 Corvette one winter. They sure made a mess under the hood and in the dash.
