My first car was a 1975 Camaro that I got in HS for $1200. It had a straight six in it and was that powdery red color you see when the clearcoat starts to go bye bye. As a 16 yr old with no overhead, I was able to get it painted (chose a dark Corvette silver from the era), diamond tuck velour interior (classy for the early 80s), and some Cragar SS rims.
About 8 months after I bought it, I managed to throw a push rod out the side of the block. Me and a friend found a 396 in an old chevy pickup truck at a junkyard. We tore it down, cleaned it up and had it balanced and blueprinted. We also took the 4 speed manual out and rebuilt that. Considering the gearsin the back, it wasnt a terror in the 1/4 mile, but it would scream out on the highway. At 17 I was running from Orlando to Daytona Beach in 30-35 minutes. Raced a few Porches and Corvettesand won a few bucks for the trouble. Most fun I ever had in a car. Got a lot of girls too.

Sadly, as a dumb teenager, I was speeding down a very curvy Boggy Creek Rd. from Orlando to Kissimee, and wrapped it around a telephone pole. Walked away from that but the car was totalled. vowed on that day that someday I would have another.

Last month, as I turned 45, I was finally able to get another Camaro. I have come a long way since those days as a rebel teenage road racer. I loved that car. And my renewed affair with Camaros has been rekindled. Something about that permagrin. I will own this car forever.

I fell in love with the 5th gen in 2006(?) at the South Florida Auto Show in Miami. I saw the concept, red, beautiful. I to my buddy that day that I would own one. It would be my first new car. Picked her up in June 2009 and have been in love since.

I always liked all gen Camaro's a lot and had owned a 98 3.8l, but ultimately I fell in love with the Camaro when the 5th gen concept was displayed in mags like Hot Rod & in Transformers of course.
