Question about MRR M228

Hi there,

I was wondering if the same MRR M228 wheels I had on my 5th gen (20x10 +23 front, 20x11 +43 rear) would fit my 6th gen?

I saw another thread about MRR M228 rims designed specifically for 6th gens....does that mean the 5th gen version will no longer work? I couldn't anything else on this site when I searched.

I am in the process of ordering the same rims I had on my 5th gen, for my 6th gen, just want to make sure I don't order the same size if it no longer fits

Thanks

Yes, they fit. You need spacer for the front otherwise it looks a bit funny. Normally the have +35 in front. Rear is ok as +43 is standard.

There's no such thing as a "negative spacer"... Adding a spacer to a +23 offset would push it way out of the front fender well. A +35 offset is more sunken into the wheel well, as compared to a +23 offset... 12 mm more inboard...

Yes, exactly. The 6gen MRR 228 use +35 offset. He got +23 so he need a spacer otherwise the wheel will stay too far inside.
Nobody is talking about negative spacer.

If he has 20x10 +23 for the front, he does not need a spacer.

The front will poke out 21mm further than stock, and rear will poke out 15mm further than stock. They should fit, but the front tires might stick out just past the fender.

For clarification to the OP:
Gen 5 SS 1LE front wheel specs were 20x10, +23
Gen 6 SS 1LE front wheel specs are 20x10, +20

The MRR 228 (as do the MRR 017) uses the Gen 5 Specs so you will have 3mm less backspacing. Assuming you will run a 285/30 tire, If you need to run aggressive negative camber for track duty, you may need that 3mm back so a spacer "may" be required in that scenario.

The +35 offset referenced earlier is for the stock 8.5"wide wheels, not the 10" wide wheels. A +35 on a 10" wheel on the front will NOT fit.

That's a very good point... even the stock 8.5" wheel has a +25 offset. I run 19 x 8.5" wheels with +35 offset for my winter tires and there's barely 10mm between the rim and strut. Actually the 10" +23 wheel might not fit, depending on rim design and tire size.

They will fit on both the 5th and 6th en

Only difference is Tire sizes

6th gen recommendation is 285/30 305/30

5th gen recommendation is 275/40 315/35

I did however just do a set of wheels on a zl1 and run 305/315 with no rubbing bough lol

Wrong. We use in Europe a lot MRR 20x10 ET +35 in front. They fit flush with the fender.

I'll clarify....
On my 2016 Camaro 2SS with MRC, a +35 10" wheel will hit the strut. With a tire mounted on the wheel, it will not bolt up as the interference prevents the back of the wheel hub to sit flush on the mounting surface. With a +23, I have approximately 5mm of clearance. With a 285 tire mounted, it is closer to 2mm of clearance..

Yours must not be the same as mine......
