Makes sense to me as the program was intended to get non GM drivers into a GM product. There were no loyalty or conquest programs back then and employee pricing was limited to the employee and spouse; no aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews etc. or significant others. Per memory, eligibility changes started in the late eighties and sometime in the nineties more were added making the program closer to the Family and Friends program we see today.

That's really good to know. Thanks for the information. Since I'd be trading in my current Camaro, I suppose I should be looking for a GMS code then.

Appreciate anyone that can help. Please PM me if so.

Not sure when the last time they've had the referrals.
The 20% off is a better deal for sure than the GMS.....

The 20% offer is better, but it makes you only able to buy what is on the lots. It is possible to buy under the GMS price as well, I just got my 2017 1LE under GMS by several thousand dollars this weekend.

The ZL1 I want is on the lot and the dealer indicated they honor all discount options. Just need one lol. I think I need GMS instead of GEX since I'll be trading a Camaro.

For a GMS you have to be a relative of the person with the code. It's reserved for employees and his/her family.

Supplier discount is the one reserved for friends, and it is a GSF code

Employee pricing is pretty restrictive. Parents, siblings and children.

Managed to get a student discount. Didn't know that was a thing, but is equal to supplier pricing. Just an FYI in case anyone else can get that.

Thanks for the help anyway!

That is not correct.. my uncle retired from GM, I've used the GMS number for family discounts a few times.. It changes from time to time but this is right off GM's website. (See below)

Active GM employees, retirees, surviving spouses and divestitures are eligible to take advantage of the GM Employee Discount or sponsor the following purchasers:

Spouse
Children
Stepchildren
Grandchildren
Stepgrandchildren
Grandparents (including in-law and step)
Parents
Stepparents
Siblings (including full, half and step)
Mother-/father-in-law
Sons-/daughters-in-law
Brothers-/sisters-in-law
Aunts
Uncles
Nieces
Nephews

All this and they couldn't add cousins

That's why I had to get a GEX instead of GMS code.
