I took my car in for the recall on the SC last week. Was verbally told of the key recall. I told them I have not seen it in the mail yet, but when I do, Ill decline. A manager heard my conversation and told me that when its time to get my yearly tag, the state of California will decline it until the key recall gets done. I don't know if he was speaking the truth or not, but that would suck. I want to keep my key they way it is.

How about if I have to do it eventually, could I not turn in the second switchblade from the second set of keys? Would it still work?

Had mine in for her first oil change (1500 miles) and they said they already had the new keys in, I told them no thank you, GM couldn't fix my top on my old SS when I asked so no I'm returning the favor. They laughed and said no problem!

Well comes to find out he was speaking the truth. Taken from Cali's DMV site.

"My registration says a Recall "Proof of Correction" is required; what do I do?

Contact the nearest authorized dealer of the vehicles manufacturer for a free recall repair. Once the recall repair is completed, the dealer will issue a "Proof of Correction" certificate that is returned to the DMV. If your vehicle is refused service by a dealer, please contact us at (800) 242-4450."

I've googled around and apparently even if it is a voluntary recall like the key, you have to do it before you can renew your registration.

That figures. I think the person above said it would work if you only gave them one key to Mod. So my plan is to put it off until tags are due, and then give the dealer 1 key, keep the other and use the original one. Hope some chip program thing isn't changed as part of the recall key.

RIGHT! there is nothing wrong with the key like it is. What is wrong is as# hole Lawyers. If you are that stupid not to turn a key back on if your knee hit it, then you should be put to sleep to thin the dumb as#'s out of this world. Now days it looks like the dumb get all they want from the smart by extortion.

The state has no way to track if recalls are done.

Just got CA tags two weeks ago. No "Proof of Correction" was ever mentioned.

I just did my California Registration Renewal in June and there was NOTHING about having to have any Recalls DONE. As far as the recall goes I just had my 2010 Camaro 2LT/RS in for service last Saturday and I was asked if I wanted the Recall done, well my answer was not No, but F_ck NO.

wait what? Ive been off for awhile and see this, they are recalling the keys? Why cant they simply recess the button so if you hit it with a knee or something it wont depress? Seems like a much easier fix to me and still have the switchblade key
