First 250 miles I drove her home on the day I bougt her I got 26 mpg doing the 8-9-10-9-8 thing with the paddles averaging about 70mph on the highway.

Since then, 16 mpg in spirited city driving.

Plenty of road feel in Sport. Plenty more in Track.

Yea I think my cars life average (1,990 miles) is 16-17mpg, almost entirely city driving.

I do piss and moan about getting 18.5 MPG though.
I can only imagine what the ZL1 gets.. 9 MPG maybe ?

PS: I at least paid for the ZL1 rear spoiler so my car looks just
a little more edgy.
I average 17-19mpg, easily mid 20's or higher on long trips.

The Camaro feels numb in this regard. It's probably the biggest flaw I can
point out with the car (more so than the limited visibility out the windshield).
I tried Sport and Touring modes for steering and both feel decoupled
from the road.

Has anyone found the connection to the road through the steering wheel
get better when you shed those nasty/loud sounding goodyears ? I've owned
a bunch of cars and these are the worst tires I ever had on a new car.
There are several tiers of suspension tuning for the Camaro. When I test drove an SS (FE3 suspension), I found it too numb for my preferences. The FE4 suspension on the SS 1LE and ZL1 is much more connected without being overly racecar firm, which is what the ZL1 1LE is.

Given you appear to have an FE2 suspension on not-very-aggressive tires, things will be even less communicative. Trying something like the "Lowering and Handling suspension kit" (p/n 84188725), or go up a full level with the SS 1LE suspension handling package (part number 84233245), which swaps out sway-bars, control arms, and springs, along with some more aggressive summer tires will make a dramatic improvement when coupled with a performance oriented alignment. The alignment will tie it all together, don't be afraid to start off with the SS 1LE "track" alignment, which IMO is more of a fast street alignment, given that it's not aggressive enough for actual track work.

If you're trying to get maximum value for the dollar, my first advice would be to get an excellent summer tire like the RE71R and a good fast-street alignment. From there swapping out the soft FE2 springs, sway-bars, dampers, and bushings with FE4 level parts will reduce numbness without being overly harsh with NVH.

To get some perspective to see if that's where you want to head, test-drive or drive a Camaro club members' SS, SS 1LE, or ZL1 to get a feel for the different suspensions.

Hope that helps,
Ryan

Ah, finally someone who apparently drives like me..

You need to redline the car or you'll be missing out on all the fun.
Why buy a car with 335 HP if you're not going to max it out ??

Oh i do that too, but until you get out of the city in los angeles, you aren't redlining anything.
