This is all out of 302 CI. displacement vs 6.2 in the Camaro. Both are 12 sec. cars easily. I enjoy running thru the twisty's but have never found a Camaro SS or ZL1 to run with off track. This duo of sports cars put a hurt on most any other RWD cars sold today & it's a great time to be a Gearhead! So let's enjoy our respective pony cars and Drive.
I think you got that a bit mixed up. The Gen 1 Coyote was 2011-2014. The Gen 2 Coyote came for 2015 with the S550 body style. And for the revised S550 in 2018 it is the Gen 3 Coyote.

I love when displacement is mentioned. Now which engine is physically bigger?

The Coyote is bigger, despite being smaller in displacement. It is also heavier...

The LT1 is roughly the same dimensions as the previous LS3...

No doubt. Looking at the engine in my wife's '15 GT compared to the LT1 in my Corvette (or the LS1 when I had my GTO) makes you realize how much bigger the 5.0 is physically.

If you take the heads and cams off the Coyote it probably looks smaller...

That’s worth something maybe...

For sure. Without the heads and cams the motor is probably 1/2 the dimensions

Actually, without the heads, its probably about the same size as an LS3...

The block for the Coyote is shaped very weird, thus making it take up more room despite having more open area.

I replaced a cylinder head on my ‘99 GT, and thought the head was kind of big..

(For perspective it was the first motor I opened up myself)

The bad boys on the Shelby make those look like babies.

You are correct, their is no gauranteed win...every Camaro will not beat every Mustang...these new ones move out now.

Let me offer some advice;

The Camaro has 2 distinct advantages, weight (LMR Stang weighed 3860 // Autoweek Camaro weighes 3685 in a quick Google search) and more low end torque which gets you off the line quicker (traction provided). When you negate these 2 clear advantages then the scales tip to a very even race...especially from a roll. You already know what my advice will be, don't take away the thing that will keep you ahead.

The early timeslips are showing some mph's at 119 for the '18 Mustang stock....now a seasoned racer will look at that and say right off the top of their head "that's a mid to high 11 second car" and they are right. However, they havent broke 12 second barrier yet.

One better;
The mph is showing the power that the car is making, the ET is reflecting the efficiency of how that power is applied (in Laymans terms). That is a fact that even the Ford boys can't deny...we "asshats" just like to point that out.

Sorry that you are frustrated, knowledge is power, use it to your advantage my friend.

11.89
yeah hes been driving professionally for years. hes fords test driver. and it was a track rental for a hot rod magazine article

still not quicker than an average joe at a regular track night

they wont stop till they run quicker than the SS. even if its not realistic. They'll do a rental in -1500 and beat the SS eventually. its kinda funny

not that I expect it...but that would be something if the SS gets a power bump and a 10 speed next year. be some hurt feels for sure
