Winter prep

I tried to search this forum but couldn't find anything relating to this.

What winter tires and wheels do y'all run? and where did you buy them?

On other parts of the forum I've seen someone run 5th gen 18" steel wheels, as well as 6th gen 18" LT wheels. I've seen a few eBay auctions for the 5th gen wheels, but have had a hard time finding the 6th gen wheels.

Thanks!

The 5th Gen wheels will fit on the 6th Gen without brembos equipped.

thewurzernator seems to have fit them on a v6 1LE (4-piston brambos I believe) - though he didn't state with how much clearance:

Interesting didn't read the rest of the forum post but those look strange on his Camaro. I had the 18" black steel wheels on my 5th Gen for winter wrapped in Firestone Winterforce tires for 2 yrs. zero issues on new England backroads and highways. His wheels look super tucked into that wheel well perhaps a spacer would help?

I know a lot of people swear by the Bridgestone Blizzaks around the forum I know they're nice but $$$ damn if your not paying for the name more then the tire there.

Uggh I can't find a tire/wheel package for less than 1300

I tried Discount Tire online and Tire Rack. Anyone have any other suggestions? I've been looking on Craigslist but haven't found anything yet.

Went with LT 18" take-offs from eBay and Michelins with a rebate from BJ's.

My stock wheels are sooooooo heavy. I'm guessing partly because of the RFTs. Was quite a workout today doing the change.

Installed winter floor mats. Shovel and scraper in the trunk. I think I'm ready!

In the past, I stuck with Pirelli Scorpion Winter because they're a winter "performance" tire, so you don't completely give up handling like you do with the Blizzaks. They're expensive, but great tires. The front tires lasted 4-5 years...rears about two.

I'm also using Continental Wintercontact SI on my Sonic...they're very nice!

Awesome glad you found a setup, Northeast Winters can be brutal I went all last year with the stock runflats and ugh so many times I was close to not making it home. This year zero issues 1 storm in. Got a steal on some 19" wheels wrapped in blizzaks from a friend who owned a Camaro but bought a truck for the winter months.

Cool, I never liked the scorpions I know they're a good tire but they never seemed to soften even a little on long highway drives for me.

I had used performance winter tires on my previous car as well. Pirelli's and Dunlops. But just couldn't justify an extra $200-400 now. Was trying to save as much as possible this time around.

I would have bought a used winter set if I could find one in time for the cold and snowy season. I looked.
