This is probable a silly question but have you ever used the Adam's Americana Premium Carnauba Paste Car Wax on the rims? I heard it allows easy clean up of brake dust, road gunk etc….

I have... the issue is that waxes have a much lower melting point than sealants, so the longevity of a wax on wheels is pretty low. With any amount of driving your wheels will heat up a good amount.

So while using Americana is definitely better than nothing, I'd recommend going with a sealant for your wheels if you're looking for something that will keep the wheels protected and easier to clean for longer.
