driving without a hood?

So i found a hood I want to buy and its about an hour away, but I don't have a truck. How dangerous would it be if I took my hood off and were to drive to pick up the other hood, installing it when I got there? Keep in mind that I would have to drive on the highway. Sorry if this is a retarded question, but I have no other solution to getting this hood

Nothing will happen, we used to drive with no hoods on old cars all the time.
Maybe take engine cover off and that should be it

Wink

Not illegal in Florida, and it shouldn't effect your engine at all (long as your not driving through a hail storm or a hurricane).

I'd stay off highways as something could get throw back and hit something on the top of the motor.

The real question is it a steel hood with the bolt holes tapped and if you know how to properly shim and align a hood? If it is fiberglass etc it may not want to mount right away without some prep work, and it had better come with all parts included to be able to attach it and have it lock closed properly if it does not have you transferring parts from your hood....?

You might also want to check and see if your new hood needs hood pins, or if they are recomended- don't want your new hood flying up to meet you.

Also when removing, use two people- it is so easy to slip and crack your windshield.

Why not just ride down there as normal and remove your old hood when you get to the destination and then install the new one right there? Seems logical to me...

No longer than that shouldn't be a problem in good weather. But as others have said make sure you get or have everything needed to properly install it.

For whatever reason, I didn't even think he was keeping the old one. I don't know what the hell is wrong with me.
