Second thoughts

Driving in the rain on the DC Beltway today on my way to work and all of a sudden the guy in front of me slams on his brakes coming to a complete stop. Luckily I was able to stop my 2LT just a couple inches short of his bumper.

After letting my heart come back into my chest I was having second thoughts. If i would have let my car "tap" that jack*** I could have:

1) got a new Aggressor Bumper
2) had my bumper (with two irritating rock chips) repainted
3) changed my halogens to RS headlights

etc etc etc...

...Really?...Hit somebody from behind, it's a no-brainer who's fault it is (yours)....

Driving record and insurance increases will kill any "benefit"...lol...

Except the accident would have been your fault and your insurance would have had to pay to repair his vehicle too....causing your insurnace premium to go up and...well, you get the picture. You're better off by using the brakes properly and increasing your following distance in the future!

yep, that's pretty much how it works. if you leave proper distance, and maintain that distance you can avoid hitting things.

Oh I understand this but traffic here is really unpredictable. I was a safe distance away obviously because I was able to avoid him lol

your probably still going to get the ticket, life isn't always fair. hit something will the front of your car and 99.9% of the time you will get a ticket. the only real exception to this is if you have the right of way. ie, someone runs a stop sign or red/yellow light.

not to sound like a dick, but if you adjust your driving to match road conditions (weather, traffic etc) you can avoid any accident. but nobody does. I live in the DC area too, and I know how they are. doesn't matter if there's a monsoon, people will still drive 90mph 4 inches off the car in front of them.

I'd say not any accident, but a solid almost all of them. Defensive driving, anyone who has spent time on a motorcycle gets a lot better at it, and it carries over into driving cars. Yeah, back way off in rain, even though you'll have A-holes passing you and "cutting you off." Let them be the guys to get in accidents, not you.

I think people are missing the point here. I didnt hit the guy I just "thought" about all the things i could have done if i had.

I definitely dont need people telling me about driving distance etc.

I know about traffic laws as I have a degree in criminal justice.

I have never been in an accident and have lived in NY and DC. I have taken defensive driving, I ride a motorcycle, I know about weather conditions...

This was supposed to be a somewhat fun thread about possible changes to make IF i had been in an accident but AGAIN people choose to lecture others and ruin the fun...

What a wonderful forum this is.

Well in that case run head on into a garbage truck, jump out first of course, and use the insurance check as a down payment for a SS
