Buying a Camaro. Need advice!
So I totaled my 06 RX8. Other persons fault. I will probably get 5-8k for it.
My girlfriends family not only owns a chevy dealership, they own the finance company too! So I was thinking camaro as a replacement. But I have some questions... Trying to decide between v6 and v8. As an RX8 owner I'm used to getting 15-18 MPG on premium fuel, but would like to get more. I drive a LOT. I've heard people say on this forum that the v6 doesn't really get much better mileage than the v6. Since initial purchase price isn't an issue for me, the only real concern is gas mileage. Question: I know that the V8 has AFM, or cylinder deactivation. Does the v6 also have this? I know that a lot of you guys try and tune OUT AFM, but for me, I want to know the opposite: can you turn it ON or OFF at will? Can you put the V8 camaro into ECO mode and drive it like a cruz? Then when you want to put the pedal to the metal, switch it off? I know the new stingray has this ability... I know I'm going to get a lot of hate and "use the search feature" but I've been searching around and the only thing people talk about is tuning AFM out. For me, I actually like it, because if you can turn it on, it would make the big V8 a bit more livable as an EDD. And like I said, I'm used to paying a premium in gas to drive a sports car. I'm just looking to get somewhere in the 20's. Mid 20's would be nice, 30 would be great but I know that's a dream. What can you Camaro Bro's tell me? What advice can you give? Should I go V8 or buy a v6? Wish the new ones were available, but unfortunately, can't wait that long for a 6th gen. |

Don't know what the V8 gets, I get 21 and some change with a V6. That's mild driving "generally".

Are you kidding me?
With those hook ups you better get a Stingray! EPA estimated 29MPG! But to answer your questions. I owned a V6 13' Camaro and the MPG is not much better than a V8 unless you drive like a grandma. Go for the V8 Camaro or a base model Stingray with AFM cylinder deactivation which shuts down to a 4 banger on the hwy.

the V6 get better milage. some of the numbers members post here are laughable. anyhow, If your thinking of the V8 then get it. otherwise, as many people here will tell you, you'll probably end up regretting it. personally, I got the V6 and never regretted it. but I also never even considered the V8. just wasn't worth the the 10k premium, higher maintenance, insurance, and tires. the V6 just meet all my needs. but a lot, and I do mean a lot, of people that were not sure which to get and got the V6 ended up trading in a year or two later.

I would buy the V8. I own the V6 and it is ok on surface streets, but trying to get up to speed entering a freeway makes me want the V8. I would also recommend getting the RS package.

Get the V8 - you can always drive slower.....with a V6, it can only go so fast! V8 sounds better too.

if you go with the v6 find one with the larger wheels! 19s or 20s. better tire selections when you decide you want more out of the car and the v6 is no slouch. it will still get you down the road pretty quick and handle better than most of whats on the road. making the last car payment this year so having said all that im going supercharged. still happy with my v6 purchase though. even with all the crap i have done i still come out with more $$$$ in my pocket

I recently sold my 04 RX8 and upgraded to 13 1LT Camaro. As you can see, i have a thing for red/blk. The Camaro doesn't handle like the RX8 but now u have torque! The Camaro is so much biggger. U have to get parking and backing up because its hard to see and judge where the parking curb is when u pull into a spot. I'm always scared im going to hit the bottom by the fog lights. Gas mileage is much better but i knew that sucked when i bought my mazda. Anything is going to be better than the mazda. I loved my mazda but no regrets. I love my camaro too. Maybe even more. I get compliments on it all the time. Also like being in an American made car again!
