What about the SS lowering kit (non-MRC): https://www.thatgmpartsguy.com/suspe...su?parent=1034

I'm curious how those spring rates compare to the stock SS and SS 1LE.

F1FTY, do you happen to know the part number (eg 84186925) or code (eg AAV9) for the factory GM springs that you tested? There appear to be at least three distinct spring codes for an MRC-equipped Camaro, and it would be nice if we could link the codes back to an actual spring rate. Generally, there should be a tag on the spring with the code and PN.

Would really like to know this as well.

Also on the MRC SS, I believe there is no internal bumpstops for the inverted struts, does this mean that the rates would be different in the front?

Does anyone know if the shock lengths between the SS MRC vs Non MRC lengths are the same?

I'll have to check the springs, but I might have removed the tags prior to the install. The car is currently away for the winter, will need to remember to check this in the spring.

You could also inquire with Matt at ThatCamaroPartsGuy as he is who I got my GM kit from.

Fifty,

When testing these springs, are the dyno graphs from uncompressed to coil bind? How many inches of travel until coil bind, if so?

Yeah, I'm very curious because if you assume the front springs were tested from fully uncompressed to when it ramps up, that would mean the corner weights of the car would be engaging the the front springs to the stiffer rate and not so much the "178lbs/inch" rate. So really the average lbs/inch rate is irrelevant and what needs to be focused on is after the 900-950lbs/inch. Unfortunately I don't have rear motion ratio #'s so I can't really conclude anything in my mind.

If measurements are taken in 20mm or 1" increments you get a read on the coil.

Yes. Not sure, would have to bring them back to the shop to have them tested.

I wouldn't go that extreme. The 178 is the rate that the spring will find itself operating in before full compression according to the shop that tested them. They did say that the initial rate prior to the linear portion would be most likely eaten up by the vehicle weight. The consistency of the OEM springs also impressed them (they're a BMW race shop).

Sorry, confused but you said this was tested from uncompressed to coil bind. Was the initial rate included in the test you provided?

Corner weights based on research have the front corners at 950+

I'd have to call the shop and have them retested to be able to verify 100% as I'm only going off of what the rep told me when I picked up the springs and the information. It was explained to me that they go the full range of the spring from uncompressed to coil bind and that vehicle weight would eat up the initial portion, which had the spring sitting in the 178 range for most of its travel. I was told to ignore the min and max values due to vehicle weight and coil bind.

The shop I used was R/T Tuning in Dulles.
