I think longer test drives would sell more Camaros.

I know that long test drives would not be realistic but I was thinking this last night while driving my car. The more I drive it, the better I like it. In the time that I have owned it, I have become more acqauinted with it's driving and running characteristics. My last car was a 94 LT1 M6 and you could say that I was very used to a driving style that it responded to. As a result, my old driving habits didn't bring out the best in these new cars during those first several (short) test drives. It probably contributed to the year and a half that it took me to finally buy one. Learning where this car's power band is (on up the rpm range from my LT1) has been among what would have sold me sooner. It was my reading on here how well they respond to mods that promtped me to finally take the plunge. I reasoned that I could mod my way to where I wanted to be perfomance wise. The car runs much better than it did 6 months ago. I have done some mods but honestly, I believe the biggest change that I have made is not driving it like I'm in my old LT1.

Didn't Chevrolet used to have the 24-hour test drive? Or am I thinking of a different manufacturer?

That was just the add campaign they ran when the economy was good.

I test drive by renting. I rented 2012 2LT RS back in October for the weekend, when my 300zx TT was in the shop. Two weeks latter I bought one.

But then again I was one of those that bought on faith. Both were bought sight unseen and no test drive ...

My dealer gave me the car two days before I signed and just let me drive it around till he got a chance to do the closing.

My last two cars were bought on the lot without driving. In 2003, my husband worked for Chrysler and we got a huge deal on an Intrepid. No driving - just bought it. Same thing for the Camaro. He ordered it and brought it home. There really isn't a huge need to test drive a new car IMO. I usually drive a car for 5 to 10 years, so any new car feels good to me compared to what I am currently driving as a DD.

My buddy is the general manager at the dealership. I went in to get a oil change on my 2011 Tahoe LTZ and he told me to take a Camaro SS for a ride. I got back and told him I want it. I figured I better keep the Tahoe for the winter because the Camaro will never see snow.

Many dealers will require screening before test drives of "performance cars".
Expect a credit check, drivers license and ability to purchase the car before you and the salesperson go for a ride.

When I bought mine I had a long test drive it was about a hour and a half but the sales man was a good friend so we were just out having fun.
