It is very interesting. I would bet it is a combination of all factors.

1. I see some people not trusting the aluminum body yet, (I dont see an issue with the eco-boost motors. Dont want one, dont get it, you can still get the 5.0)
2. Almost every truck I have seen on dealer lots, is fully loaded with every option, or a bare bones work truck with no options.

I actually looked up a big dealer here in texas to check out the rebates and from what I could see, all of the XLT and XL models were the ones with the huge rebates. Everything above that was still only 3000 to 4000 off in rebates.

I'd imagine another small factor would be the seemingly huge popularity of the new Colorado and Canyon. People that don't need a full-size are jumping on them and I'd guess a few of them are coming from former F-150 buyers. Not the lions share but still it's a factor.

Not only that, but I believe Ram sales are up too. Competition is even stiffer right now with everyone building quality trucks.

I would totally jump on a midsize offering from Ford if they made one. I like the way the Colorado's look, but honestly i'm not too impressed with their drivetrain.

The only thing that really stops me from seriously looking at a Colorado, is this. The way I want my truck configured, with the rebates available on the full size trucks, I could get one with everything I want cheaper than the a Canyon (I prefer canyon styling over Colorado).

With current rebates, my local dealer has the F-150 I want and will sell it for 33K. The closest canyon to what I would want at my local dealer with rebates is 38K. granted it does have a few more creature comforts than the 150 but its the closest one to what I want in my truck

A local dealer here as new rams 12-14k off sticker......

Same dealer has Crew cab Chevys 10-13k off sticker.

That's pretty normal in the full size truck world.

The '15 F150 gets pricey when you start checking all the boxes, but so do the other brands. But trucks are also offering a lot things that trucks just never used to do. (Technology, fuel economy etc) It all has a price.....

I won't even talk about tow ratings. (And how you factory half-tons are rated at 12,000 pounds. 20 years ago a one-ton dually wasn't rated for that)

I'm a Ford truck guy, but a GM car guy. I just don't like the look of the '15 bodystyle. My dealer had a new '14 Raptor that I picked up a few months ago instead of a '15. Heck, the '15 Platinum I looked at was the same price as the raptor anywya.

That's still ridiculous and the used truck market is just as bad. It's a bubble and it'll have to burst sometime.

I sold a 2006 LBZ Duramax CCSB 4x4 with 150k on the odometer in September 2012 for 17.5k. That was just about right then. I could sell it today for 22-24k. Something's wrong with that.

Popularity drives most of this in my opinion as a Crew Cab truck is a prime family vehicle in America these days. Single and Double cabs are an option but if I'm dumping twice as much money into a vehicle as I did this Camaro, I'd like to have a full back seat.

Interesting hypothesis. I prefer GM vehicles and would buy a GMC Canyon extended cab if I could afford another vehicle. If I were to buy it, it will be my first truck.

FenwickHockey, are you aware of any data GM has on conquest sales of Canyon/Colorado from the F-150?

What's not to love about the Colorado/Canyon drivetrain? Good V6 option right from the Camaro with a diesel offering in a few months. Better payload ratings out of a mid size truck ever. I'm curious as to what you would think could be better than that.

Brian I think your comment is the most accurate. New F-150 isn't an improvement in the looks department.

My main example would be Fords new 2.7L Ecoboost V6. Its capable of achieving better MPG in a full size truck with more towing capability. Imagine that slapped into a colorado. You'd see 30 MPG highway in that bad boy.
