Hey yo,

This morning I came out to my car to find something strange on the windshield. I didn't pay much attention at first, since it had been snowing and I thought it was maybe some tree sap.

But as soon as I used my windshield wipers I knew something was wrong.

Whatever was poured on the windshield smeared and became oily. I could barely see by the time I got to work.

When I got out of the car, I took a closer look. It smelled almost like paint thinner or something lacquer-based.

I am at work now so I don't have access to my marvelous Adam's products, but I'm not sure if that would help.

I am going to see if a friend can bring me something, but what do you all recommend to clean something like this off?

4-0 steel wool...

Will not scratch your windows - DO NOT use on mirrors

I would not go for a mechanical removal method to get a chemical off. Start with window cleaner or rubbing or denatured alchohol. Progress to mineral spirits, then laquer thinner or acetone.

I agree with not going with the steel wool... Will just swirl the liquid/oil around...

Take a microfiber to it and wipe it, see how that goes and go from there. It's really hard to damage glass. It may just take a few absorbent paper towels to get rid of it and then use some window cleaner.

Probably just alcohol or window cleaner will do the trick.

Thanks for the tips, I'm still not quite sure what it was. Almost seemed like half-WD40, Half-Super Glue. Very odd.

It cleaned off the paint very easily. Adams soap, hot water, and some elbow grease.

The windshield was more challenging, and if it wasn't so cold I would have had more time to get all of it. But I use some debonder, simple green, dawn dish soap, adams wash, and a lot more elbow grease.

I replaced my wiper blades. There are still little specs of it still in the windshield, but I probably won't be able to tackle it again until it is warmer out.

... And just to make people feel better, this was my winter battle cruiser Ford Explorer and NOT my camaro, so rest easy lol.
