Black low gloss rim paint fading

I’ve had the car for about 11 months now and only hand wash the body and rims with Meguiars car soap and a microfiber mit, and occasionally use Sonax wheel cleaner plus. Lately I’ve been noticing issues with the paint on my rims. Seems 2 are affected right now, both on the driver’s side. Does this look like a paint defect from the factory, or possibly something acidic in the road that ate away at the paint?

How often are you using with sonax? Shouldn’t be more than once or twice a year

Gm paint is bad, stop all this foolishness and find yourself a good powdercoater.

Mine are doing the same, and I've seen a couple threads come around about it. These wheels probably should have been powdercoated from the factory. It's what I'll probably do as a solution to my problem, as I have driven myself far beyond warranty replacement (48,800 miles).

Not often, the last time I did it was about 6 months ago, and before that probably 2 or 3 times.

Luckily I'm still under warranty, so if it's not something caused by me or road conditions I'm definitely going to try for a warranty fix.

That’s a lot worse than mine, but I do have one wheel that’s getting these mysterious white spots that seem to be spreading. The car has never been through a car wash or had anything used on the wheels other than Meguires car was soap! I showed my service guy and he said they want to try and buff it out and if it doesn’t come off, which I’m sure it won’t, they’ll replace the wheel. BTW, these 20” low gloss wheels are $875 ea at the dealership!

One on my rims is doing that but not that bad. The dealer says I can bring it in to be repainted. But it will take a few days. Just havn't had a chance and not ready to give up car for a rental. I'm waiting for when they predict snow then I will drop it off because I won't be driving in the snow anyway.

If they fix it, under warranty, it will just happen again. It’s because they use cheap paint and a cheap paint schedule.

Once again, spend the money, and get the powedercoat.....

On average how much would powdercoating run?

It runs the gamut ....depending on the honesty of the place. Figure $100 a wheel.

Mine looks the same. May go the powdercoating route after this winter season.

Powdercoat can also fade as well. So, be aware of that too.

Mine are in perfect shape after almost 2 years. I use nothing but car soap and I keep them waxed. I think powder coat is the way to go though.
