Yes, completely agree with this- I got the V6 for a daily driver. I take it any time and anywhere I want (including business trips) as it gets great gas mileage. The V8 is better for track and racing.

I have a 2011 2LT/RS and I do love the car, mostly because of the color but I do want a V8. I am looking at a used 2016 1SS in Hyper Blue. I really want the V8.

Depends on your needs and previous cars you had.

If you're a man of creature comforts and don't care about power then V6 is perfectly fine. Want more oomph but don't care about the dumb features.. Then V8.

If you like the best of both worlds? Then look into a slightly used 1/2SS.

Sums it up for me, exactly my point of view.

My thoughts as a V8 owner and former 5th gen V6 owner:

The SS is overkill for just daily driving or street driving, but it sure does put a bigger smile on your face.

The V6 is plenty to have fun in...I thoroughly enjoyed my 5th gen V6, although it was fairly modded as well which upped the fun factor a bit. I have no plans to modify the engine in my SS (well...not much)

Don't let anyone tell you the V6 is some kind of car "not worthy" of being in a Camaro...that's just stupid talk. Its a fantastic engine.

If you want to buy new, and you value the creature comforts (since it will be a daily) get the V6.

If you want to buy new, and you value the raw experience of driving the car, over creature comforts and features, get the SS.

If you want the best of both worlds, get a used 2SS.

Good luck.

Don't let this bother you. You could make the same statement to the opposite effect and it will be just as invalid.

"I would absolutely consider the v6 Camaro

no better cars out there for the price"

Its all just opinion and there's no truth to any of it.

Get the V8- while you can

There is going to be a time in the very near future that this is not going to be an option. Get the V8s before they are gone.

A naturally aspirated V8 is basically on its last legs, For 30k this is probably our last chance to get one.

I've owned both. I started with a 2014 2LT/RS and just recently moved up to a 2017 2SS. The Camaro is my only car and is my daily driver to and from work (45 miles round trip, Chicago traffic), not counting some motorcycle riding in the summer. This was also the case with my V6.

I'd say if you could afford it, go V8. I loved my V6, but I always felt like something was missing. I was always looking at ways to increase the power if I wanted to and never spent a ton of money on the car, since I always felt like I was going to upgrade at some point. I finally pulled the trigger (thanks to one hell of a trade-in value on the V6) and while I was skeptical of my decision at first, it turned out to be the right one for me. There are times, however, that I feel like I never get to fully experience the power of the V8. The whole "it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow" thing. I will admit, the sound of the LT1 as I hit the accelerator definitely makes up for everything else.

I actually get better gas mileage in my V8 (thanks AFM!) than my V6. Gas is more expensive, but I also fill up one less time each month, so it's been evening out in the long run for me. I do have a winter to contend with coming up and didn't think ahead when buying my winter tires for my V6, so I have to buy a new wheel set for the SS. Maybe I'll regret it when I have to drive it in the snow, but for right now, I'm a happy camper.

Overall, stick to your budget, and if that means going with a V6 now and upgrading later, then that's what you have to do. I wanted the creature comforts, which is why I went V6 over V8 the first time around. Three years and some pay raises later, I got the best of both worlds.

EDIT: I forgot to add, my insurance actually went down moving to the SS. I changed providers to make this happen, but I pay about $10/month less than I was on my V6. This is definitely a YMMV situation.

cheers,

I paid 34k out the door for a CPO 2016 2SS M6, Moonroof, NPP, Nav and MRC with 9k miles.

In that price range you should definitely have no problem getting into an SS.

Personally, I was only searching for an SS. I know how I am though, buyer's remorse hits me hard...I knew I couldn't be happy with a v6.

better to drive them both.i drove v-8 powered hotrods for years.currently driving a 2015 RS.i might be getting calmer in my old age but the 6 has plenty of power,is quiet unless you get the NPP exhaust.the RS has plenty of gadgets and gizmos as well as heated leather seats,or you could go with a 1SS if you feel the need for speed more than wanting the extras inside.
