Well after the dealer changed my diff oil one time, mine is actually worse now.
Will another diff oil change fix my issue possibly, or is my diff potentially going to be toast?

I believe that there have been a few instances where changing the fluid twice did solve the problem. There are also some who have had the entire diff replaced.

hey Guys Newbie here
I took mine this morning for the oil pan recall, when I was heading to the dealer I heard a knock when I was turning twice, didn't think nothing of it "thinking I ran over a Can or something" when I picked it up this afternoon I put it reverse and Heard a Big Knock like if The drive line broke off. Put in park and didn't see anything in the bottom of car. Drove it 300Ft to the service dept. door. They had to push it in it wouldn't drive at all. just had it for 2 months and 1000 miles. sounds like the differential went out. Good news, they cant say they cant find anything wrong with it. 2ss 2016 Camaro |

I had the same problem. The mechanic forgot to put in the LSD additive. They drained and filled the diff again for free, making sure to put in additive as well.

Sorry guys, I need to vent here...
I brought my car in to get the Android Auto update and to get the rear differential issue fixed yesterday. I offered to give them the video recording of the noise the rear diff is making when I got there, but was told there was no need, they knew of the issue and how to fix it. Great right? By the end of the day, they said the car was not ready, and I would need to pick it up today instead. I asked about the rear diff, and was told by my service manager that it was resolved and he was looking into my 3rd issue (chirp/squeak from the V4 to V8 exhaust turnover). Awesome, finally no more squeaking and grinding. I get a call this morning while at work and he leaves a voicemail saying that the Android update is finished, and they they found a service bulletin for the exhaust, but it would take another day to get the replacement part. Awesome, but he follows that up with we tried to hear the noise from the rear differential with no success so we can't do anything about it. At this point I am just irritated, confused, and honestly pissed off. So my service manager essentially lied to me yesterday that the issue was resolved to get me to leave the car another day and try and fix it? On top of that I offered video/audio proof of what was happening. All I can say is I am never going back to that dealer again, it is one thing to have to put something off due to lack of time etc, but the second I am lied to its over. I will be finding another dealer next week. |

so is there an actual TSB # for this? I want to give my dealer a list tomorrow of what I'll be bringing it in for if they haven't done it yet.

If there is an official TSB for this, nobody has ever posted the number and very few dealerships can find a bulletin regarding it.

Terrible way to introduce myself but hello! I bought a 2SS just over a month ago, just hit 1100 miles. I hear the groan just as described, for the first 3-5 min when cold. The first time I heard it I hadn't seen this thread yet. In fact, I had only heard it twice and since it stopped after a couple of minutes thought nothing of it.
Then I came across this post and the descriptions are identical to what I experience now every time I start from cold. And I can tell it's getting worse. Changing the diff oil tomorrow to hopefully 'cure' the issue. I am very interested to see what the oil looks like.... Thanks to the great people here and their willingness to help others. Without them I would probably have waited until the manual said to change out.

Only had enough GM fluid to drain and fill once. Don't have a lot of experience with what it should look like normally but what came out was awful grey and sludgy, minor metal shavings stuck to the plug magnets. No groan so far. Fingers crossed.

After reading others' issues with taking it to the dealer for this I figured I'd save myself the time (takes about 15 min to do for yourself) + see for myself what the fluid looked like (not that I would know one way or the other).
I only had two quarts of GM fluid though. Will any fluid work that meets the specifications of GM? Can using something like Royal Purple or Mobil 1 have an effect on your warranty?

The fluid looks normal for diff fluid. Usually has some fine metal shavings in it, gray, thick, nasty smell.
